245/40/18's also fit on the stock wheels. I followed another forum member's (North 44 C63) advice, since I had a set of Dunlop Winter Sport 3D's in this size laying around, and they work perfectly.

When it comes to snow, the narrower the better, you want to cut into the snow, not compact it under the tires. The narrower, the weight is distributed over a much smaller area, resulting in the wheels biting into the snow vs riding on top.

I did PA3 235 all round on stock wheels too. I thought I was gonna look like a hella flush hipster but actually the rear isn't stretched at all.
Now I assuming the only downside for running snow tires on stock wheels is that you can't rotate them(except for side to side) because the side wall won't exactly be the same height.

I guess the Michelin run a bit wide. You can still rotate them if your going same size all around. It's a pain in the a$$, because you have to re-mount them
