Cars.
Anyone else want the 'true' sports car experience after their AMG or M?

Anyone else want to experience a raw sports car as much as I do? I'm talking about Jaguar F-Type or Cayman S or 911 or SLS. Something that really stirs your soul. I really like what I'm reading and hearing about the E63 AMG and all but cars like that are sports sedans.

I did look at the F Type but not interested until they bring the coupe and R version. This will bring the price in the 6 figure range so there are many other cars that would compete at that level.
The Cayman S or 911 do not do anything for me. I had a 997S and found that it did not tingle my senses. I know I am not the norm in that matter. I love torque and the V8s roar
I would love an SLS but that is not within my budget.
The only other one that appeal to me right now is the new Viper.
I never paid close to MSRP for any car so I will have to wait a few years till the hype comes down. I am not sure I want the level of attention it brings on the road either.
I was very close to buy a Vantage S but the single clutch gearbox was absolutely a deal breaker. It reminded of my E46SMG in a bad way.

If it's in my price range I'd love to go to a new 911 S or maybe a used 911 Turbo

I got a chance to see the new Cayman up close at the LA Auto Show this past weekend. I have to admit I'm tempted. My last car before the C63 was a 2006 Cayman S, so I have some preexisting affinity towards the car. The funny thing is I really lusted after a car with a high torque, large displacement motor when I had the Cayman. I guess the grass is always greener...

I have an 1988 3.2 Manual 911 for the Pure Sports car experience. No ABS, no Power Steering and no Traction Control. Its a very direct drive.

Not a fan of the viper for the simple fact of that is alot of motor for only 500hp.....would rather have a 996 gt3... if I could afford it I would pick up a 4.0 GT3, 458 or black series SLS...se the pattern there?? Lol.... tho I have not driven one a 911 Turbo is in my budget and woukd be my pick for a next pure drivers car

I'm at that 90% level that it'll be the new Cayman S, Agate Gray with a two-tone red/dark gray interior. Barring that, then the logical upgrade...a Carrera 4S. The new Porsches are fantastic cars.

I recently test drove a Lotus Exige S and it was about as raw of a feel as i've felt in a car.

The 08-10 Vipers have 600hp(about 550 whp) headers put it back at 600whp....yes understressed for a 8.4L but lower maint. and reliable tracking and fast driving are the result. The ACR never feels like you are going to break it while driving hard, it just takes it....simplicity....but not going to feel like the Porsche or the Benz...really raw, LOADS of grip when the tires heat up, NO brake fade, busy steering. Not trying to push the Viper ACR(I wouldn't even consider a non-ACR), its not really for most people, but it is one of the purest cars I have ever driven. Never boring, you always have to pay attention.

Different strokes for different folks....i can't see paying that kinda money for a 8.4L V10....rather give it to true engineering of the 4.0L flat 6 making 500hp...i havent driven a acr but have driven a 06 viper....not impressed. Especially for a V10 with the displacement as big as it is

I agree an 06 Viper is unimpressive, the ACR is an ENTIRELY different animal, it would be like comparing a base 911 Carrera with a GT3 RS 4.0.

Amazing how many choices there are and how radically different they all are. Engineering marvels seem to be coming out of Europe all the time these days but most do not impact the senses in the same manner as an AMG. The are almost too sterile regardless of the available performance. If you can live without some of the civility, then a Viper (ACR for the hardcore and Roadster for those who live for the open air experience) is one choice while the Vette is another. I will tell you that the combination of LS7, Tremec 6spd and no roof has been nothing short of incredible for me.

The new Viper has 640hp and has an interior that is worthy of its 6 figure price. The ACR as noted is a raw beast and I will probably wait for the new one before I make the jump.
As a side note, if you have time on your hands, feel free to read how I got beat up by the Viper community when I dare to say that AMGs cars were exciting, their performance was on par with a Viper and I was comparing both.

I wouldn't call the 911/Cayman S Sterile in any sense.

Seems like lots of people are on this site with a c63 as a second car or fun car. I want to get one for a practical daily driver that's still fun. I loved my c6 but it wasn't fast enough IMO, especially coming from a cobra that was a bit faster. If the c63 was to be a second car I'd without a doubt spend that money on a c6 z06 with heads/cam/headers/ etc. Pretty easy to get 600 rwhp out of them and with that weight and aerodynamics you have a pretty beastly package. Plus they're still fairly daily driver friendly, for a sports car (daily'd my c6 for 3 years). Check out what kind of beast they are with a few mods 27 seconds:

It's all about individual perspective, JMHO: If you have to twist the stereo volume knob to tell if the car is running.......it's sterile. If it refuses to oversteer while under throttle....it's sterile. Now if they all sounded and behaved like a GT3 that would be different but most European performance cars are quietly efficient in contrast to an AMG.

2012 C63 black series, 2015 C63 507 coupe, 2012 Porsche Cayman R 4.2L 404hp
My progression...

I started with a BMW 335i coupe. Not really a sports car-when they came out with the M3 I was so pumped-I ordered it and when it finally came I had a blast. The car was fast by my standards. The steering was a little soft on center but otherwise the closest thing I had driven to a sports car. Then I bought a Porsche spec boxster race car. That completely reset my standard of what a true driving car should feel like. The M3 felt heavy and fat after that experience. So I sold the M3 and got a Porsche Cayman R. That is still the most fun of any street car I have driven (including a Porsche GT3, Lambo LP560 and various muscle cars). The car is light, relatively fast and completely involves the driver in the driving experience (it is a manual tranny). The only downside as a daily driver is no back seat. So, now I have a c63 with PP on order. That will be the daily driver and when I feel like I want a razor edge experience I will drive the cayman R. Pretty much most performance cars today are too heavy, need tons of power to move them and have very isolated driver feedback and inputs. If you find a true driver's car get it and hang on to it... the new Cayman looks like it is going in the wrong direction. The new 911 definately did-it felt just like my M3-fat and isolated.

I'll be the black sheep of the herd and say the Honda S2000 was my true sports car experience. Honda reliability with no worries of blowing up the engine/tranny while enjoy several canyon runs, 1/4 drag strips, HPDEs, etc.

The notion less is more sounds fitting for this little 2.0 4 cylinder revving at 9,000 RPMs.

Would I buy another one? Sure after my SLK55 PP is here

Nowdays all cars are getting more and more computarized "power" every day.

I would like to have a 911/930 1980's Turbo (RWD), to have the taste of a raw, pure sport car, without any computers or chips, and feel the demanding handling characteristics of those cars. I have one in mind: Black, with gold BBS rims.

The other one I would like to have, and much because it was the reason why I started liking cars, is the Ferrari Testarossa.

If I have the money, however, I would buy the F40....
