Vic,
VERY nice stable. Great job modding the M5, she's beautiful!
I would assume the M157 is quicker straight line from a roll? Is that what you are saying? As many have said, very nice collection of performance cars!!

nice pick up! not a huge fan of the new m5 but it sounds like a great car! Also, always ripped on older BMW's (like E- series) interiors but with the new ones (F series) they do make some stunning interiors!

To all: thanks for comps- this is why I like the C63 board so much!!!!
Stock vs Stock (M157 with PP)- the M5 is faster in straight line. I have no doubt and my friend Niko ran a CLS63TT with PP at our recent local airstrip runs and pulled about 3 cars in his stock F10 m5.
The tuned M157, whether it be a CLS, Wagon, or E is going to be faster.... until the plugs foul (I kid I kid- I never had issues). But I think from a dig the stock M5 will give a tuned M157 a good run for a bit because of the active differential. Its always changing lockup percentages based on the current demand and I can launch my M5 very easily for a 2wd car. A tuned M157 is gobs of tq and requires a gentle foot for just a second or so .
When I got the M157's I was amazed, motor, sound, all of it... and now Im really liking this car. I wont say that I wont get another M157 but for now its an M156 in the black series.
Now an M159 is possibly in the works---- SLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats Vic and great color combo.
I had seen a few previous posts hinting at your wish to get into an M so it is not like this was unforeseen.
I am also on the fence on my next car purchase and was wondering if you could give more feedback when comparing it to the CLS.
I have sat in the M5 and I kinda agree with the luxurious comment.
I obviously need to drive the M5 but I know I won't be able to get much seat time and I value your opinion

Lots of subjective thoughts here. Ill sum it up with things that mean most to me (stock vs stock):
CLS looks are more aggressive- M5 looks are reserved and more stealthy- pick your poison or lack of it
CLS supsension is tight and slightly unforgiving yet mushy at times but still very taut at higher speeds. The M5 suspension is what I really like about the car- not too bump or tight but just has a rock solid feel in all environments.
CLS steering is electronic--- its not for me and too much oversteer in high speed bends. AMG got it right with the C63 Black Series but Im a fan of the hydraulic steering in the M5. Now dont get me wrong the M5 is not perfect either but Im able to adjust the servotronic to get the steering to my preference. I feel more comfortable in the M5 in all speed and road situations steeringwise.
CLS interior is nice- soft leather- ok size Nav screen- bolster seats (M5 doesnt have them). I like the M5 interior better- the leather is Merino which is a step up on Nappa- the steering wheel is a beast and the Nav has a huge screen and the I drive has more options. Call me weird but I really really like the Heads Up Display which places rpms, gear, and speed on the windshield. You can also put the Nav directions on if you like. There are small creature comforts I get in the M which I dont have in the CLS. I like that the TPMS shows psi and tire temps too. Im not a rotund person so I do wish there was side bolsters in the car. I guess they are coming in 2014.
CLS exhaust is much better stock- loud bark start ups. The M5 has a vaginal exhaust. I had to change it immediately. But its something I could change.
CLS MCT doesnt hold a candle to the DCT--- In speed of shifts and efficiency of power deliver. This is where the M5 gains back some of its displacment loss factor. As I have mentioned before the M5 has an active differential so lockup varies based on demand and the cars electronics. The CLS, if you get the optional lsd, is a 30% lockup setup. This is **** poor to me after driving the M and enjoying the 60% lockup of the C63 Black Series. 30% is just too low with all the power that the CLS has not just from a dig but going and coming out of turns too.
Driving control points- the CLS has the ESP, shift speed settings (C, S, S+) and suspension. The M has shift speed, throttle, steering, suspension, (all of them have 3 options) and ESP aka On, MDM, and Off. The M seems to map out the electronics more aggressively. The aggressive throttle map is exactly that, very responsive and reactionary when needed and similar with the other adjustments.
There are other things that can be compared like wheels, tires, but thats even more subjective. I do like the LED headlights in the CLS but like the way the active headlights in the M function better.
No clips yet-- but its not stupid loud like the V10's its only axle back.

Thanks for the feedback. Makes it a tough choice and I will have to get some seat time on the M5.
Did I hear correctly regarding the M5 pulling on a CLS by 3 lenghts?
I know there was a Gustav video but I think everyone agreed it was a non PP car.
I assume you are referring to a different time and 3 car lengths is a lot. Care to give us more detail?

Great cars in stable in the dream
Great cars in the great stable in my humble dream!
Thanks for subjective comparison (very hard to find at any place else)! And that's the reason why we like this forum so much!

Love it, great stable
I just want to know how you choose which car to drive at any given time? I would spend 30min every morning just trying to decide which one it will be A problem I would love however.
