i guess you never got enough people for that group buy?

how much would it cost to get it made individually? I actually like the idea of just straight piping the cats and leaving the res on now.

Um, idk where you got your parts fabricated but you got RIPPED.

Custom straight pipes, with a h pipe in resonators place cost me 200. And thats with a 20$ tip. Straight pipes all the way shouldn't be over 150 lol.

Edit: Was nice meeting you bro, hope you liked my set-up! Leme know what you decide to do!

You got mandrel bendedi ( not a normal pipe bender ) stainless steel pipes ( not aluminized ) for $150? Hard to believe.

That's where the money goes also my set up is with a Vband flange not welded on.

Here's some good reading on that btw.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tube_bending

What ever you guys choose to do just have the shop weld stainless not aluminized crappy pipe on to your OEM stainless setup.

Also not many muffler shops have mandrel bend machines they take up a whole room. It's a big difference in a muffler shop pipe bender and mandrel bending machine.

Notice in this vid how the pipe is true in size regardless of the bend ( doesn't distort the diameter)

Where your OEM cats go into the resonator require a mandrel bend to keep the true size.

Here is the machine mine was done on

I also added a V band flange not too long ago to be able to swap in out the set up quickly

Here's what 90% of shops have and notice the aluminized pipe ( not stainless steel ) you OEM set up is STAINLESS STEEL please don't put cheap aluminized pipe onto a well made German car

Notice on this vid how the pipe is not true in diameter when it's bended

I hope this explained "the cheap route" and the better way to do it.

True in diameter as you can see, it won't distort the true size of the pipe. Plus as I explained in the previous post you have a great 60K plus car with SS pipes from the factory, why weld cheap muffler shop bended aluminized pipe

It's a rig IMHO.

Ah yeah i missed your edit. Thanks! Yeah thats why i was hesitant on getting a cheap job, but i think those 700 dollar x pipes are too much.

Just try to go with a shop that makes me out of SS if its straight pipes you still need a bend unless they chop the cats off right before to factory mandrel bend.

Hope this helps clearing up.

Ill check with him tomorrow if he can make a Straight pipe while I'm there making mine. PM your number and ill touch base with you.

As you can see with this pic below the part of pipe that goes over the brace requires a mandrel bend to clear the brace and keep true to the diameter.
Note V band flange was not in place at time of pic

Not bashing anyone's set up btw. Just trying to share clean proper way to Mod the car.

My exhaust is stock standard and I already have the noisiest car in my neighbourhood. I recently did a drive day with Audi R8 and Ferrari F430 and all unanimously agreed the C63 had the best exhaust note. The guys could not stop telling me how lovely it sounded.

Personally I wouldn’t change a thing unless I was chasing more HP. I'd like to get long headers and a tune but having said that, neither of the cars above were noticeably better performers on our drive day and we did some serious driving with skilled pilots behind the wheel. The C63 really is a great car right out of the box.

Does AMG use long headers on any of their road vehicles or do they only use them on track specific cars like the SLS GTR? What type of header does the new SLS Black Series use? Anyone know?

So, let me get this straight.... I just want it to be louder, but not really raspy... So whats the downside to replacing the secondary cats with a straight pipe, instead of an x pipe?

From what i've heard, it seems that removing the res only makes it more raspy, by doing the secondary cat alone with a straight it seems to be deeper and loud vs an x pipe in place of the secondary cat seems to smooth it out, unless the resonator is replaced as well.

hey guys. i just got some exhaust work done over the weekend. i replaced the secondary with straight pipes and replaced the resonator with an x pipe. pretty happy with the sound...but had a question regarding the mechanic. was he supposed to give me back my original pipes and whatnot? i've never had exhaust work done before so i don't know what standard protocol is. thanks!

If you want them for any reason...maybe to retrofit, then you should get them back.

My guy didn't say anything when my resonators and cats were on the floor. Remembered to pick them up and he shrugged and said " Damn there goes my 400$" lol. I guess people tend to forget them and he profits off them.

Glad you liked the sound Sheryar! I bet it sounds monstrous!

Would deleting all 4 cats and going with two 200 cell cats be too loud? (everything else stock)
For example 20%, 50%, or 100% louder?

My car has the cats removed and a 21/2 H in the center. If you go complete straight pipe it will be loud and an amplified bark

So in place of your cats you have an H pipe? Just making sure i'm understanding correctly... haha.

Also did you leave your stock resonator in?

alright guys. went back to my exhaust guy and picked up my stuff. i was kind of upset that he wouldn't automatically give them back as i feel that should be standard procedure, but didn't make a big deal out of it. i trust he gave me back the correct stuff, but just want to post it here to make sure since he has a C55 and i want to make sure no funny business went down. like i said, he deleted the secondary cats with a straight pipe and the resonator with an x pipe and then this is what he gave back to me. did i get back my original stuff? Thanks guys!
