Car and Driver Lightning Lap 2013. Interesting results
I love these kind of tests because they put everyone on the same playing field. There was a couple of things that surprised me. First, the Camaro ZL1 rocks it and puts the hurt on some pretty big names, even besting the C63 Black Series. Second, I was a little surprised at the cars that ran faster than the M6/M5, including the Audi RS5 and the Camaro SS. WTF has happened to BMW?

The ZL1 is awesome for the money. It's a very capable track car, with nearly 600hp, for 60k. Can't go wrong.
I don't trust Ferrari times anymore, unless someone brought their own stock personal car, which I doubt.
Where's the GT-R? Would love to see how it stacked up against the top 2.
BMW sucks lol.

C&D only tests new or highly revised cars each year in the LL. They try to keep test conditions as consistent as possible so results from each year can be compared.
Here is a link to all the results through last year: http://www.caranddriver.com/features...to-2012-page-8
Note that the best ZR1 time is 2:50.7 and the best Godzilla (GTR) time is 2:53.2.
I remain highly impressed by my CTS-V sedan at 3:04 flat (still the fastest 5 passenger car tested). However, I think my wife's 2012 C63 sedan might do better than the 3:06.5 reported for the 2008 model. I'm disappointed there was no test of the regular 2012/13 C63 coupe or sedan.

Its a sad day when a 60K Camaro beats or is even that close to the C63BS and many of those other cars. Either GM has stepped it up significantly or the EU is slackin.

Stock tires and factory alignment handicap the C63. It understeers like a boat until you pass the mechanical grip threshold and begin to slide. At least this was the case for the 2009.
The Camaro chassis is proving to be very capable in both the ZL1 and 1LE configurations.
Reliable sources indicate that the Z28 will return in 2014 with an LS7 and the MR suspension from the ZL1 but weighing in 3 or 4 hundred pounds less.

Impressive performance by the Camaro and Mustang. Certainly a lot of bangs for the buck. But sorry, if I'm forced to pick a car to drive for the rest of my life from that list, it certainly wouldn't be either of those two cars.
Off topic here, but Camaro/Mustang/Corvette just don't really get me excited. However, the latest SRT Viper is different. I can see myself driving that thing. Gotta love that Viper's raw 640hp/600lb-ft N/A 8.4L V10, 6MT, RWD.

C63 507 AMG DA Car #19
I'm told the program mgr for the zl1 is an avid autocrosser and built the team for this car from all the gm gear heads........ a capable car for the masses. If it motivates germany to put out something more capable then we all win!!!!
Look out AMG you have competition..... low priced competition at that.
