Mine doesn't have it. 2009 US Spec. I wouldn't need it anyway... I'm more worried of other car drivers opening their doors and scratching/denting my car.

Truth.

My US-spec 2009 doesn't have auto-folding mirrors, but I accidently ran into it from the front the other day and mirror folded into itself. Scared the crap out of me because I thought I broke it, but I popped it right back into place.

However, when I went to manually close it again, it didn't budge. Which leads me to believe that they only fold on impact to prevent it from completely breaking off.

But to answer the question, I think it's to save weight. I also agree with the marketing comment. People always changing what they want.

I doubt it's to save weight. More like it's to save money.

In Europe, parking places are very tight. This is why you can not order a MB without a sun roof. Sometimes climbing out through the sun roof is the only way out of the car.
German logic, I guess.

Good thing you can use the key trick to close/open it.

Climbing out is the easy part. Climbing in is a lot harder

My 2007 US spec doesn't have em but I did inquire about them.. From MBenz.NL they quoted me 675 euros for the motors, not the glass or covers which have to be re-used.

that also doesn't include the programming via SDS..

It's just that parking spaces in US is wider than most of cities in Europe and Asia. All MB cars imported in Korea had folding mirrors as standard, along with parktronic and rear view camera, even for smallest A or B class.

Yes, but in major cities, like NY or SF, parking is getting tougher and tougher. That's why you see so many Minis or SmartCars these days.

The real point is, some top of the line Mercs from 10 years ago had more technology in them than our cars do today. As technology progresses, our features should become better or they should be standard on our cars if we get it fully loaded.
