There is a trim currently for sale on this website, made me look at my trim.
The black AIRBAG trim piece unclips.
Is the AMG trim piece available as a separate item to clip on in it's place?

couldn't come up with anyone supplying just the AMG trim piece to replace the AIRBAG 'label' so bought the whole trim from MBenzNL, this write up will be priceless when I tackle the DIY.

all done!
Relatively simple job with these excellent instructions.
Good value bang for your buck too IMO, wheel should be standard with AMG logo.

Yes it is much nicer than the generic AIRBAG trim.

You will find that there is a hidden slit within the dimple that allows the screwdriver to enter the steering wheel. Rotate the screwdriver so that the flathead is now horizontal (instead of vertical) and continue to insert the screwdriver into the steering wheel aiming towards the center of the wheel.

Look at the picture below where the airbag has been removed. You need to follow the direction of the BLUE arrows to release the spring clip (Green circle) that is holding the airbag. If you have done this correctly one side of the airbag will pop out (see multiple black arrows in picture below). Repeat on other side. Be careful not to force it. If you bend the spring your airbag may not sit back properly.
I cannot for the life of me get this airbag off. Been pushing very hard with the screwdriver. Does it take a huge amount of force?

No, very little force. The 'catch' for the airbag release is only about 1/4" in. Try sticking a small jewelers flathead screwdriver into the column at a 90deg angle, and make sure the flathead is parallel to the column so you can hit the catch lever. It takes some getting used to, but you don't have to jam it in very far.

Did this procedure today (actually just got the same trim w/ the airbag decal for $30 off Ebay; mine was peeling). One thing I wanted to mention: be careful tightening the Torx screws at the bottom; I didn't have the trim pushed quite into place, and was counting on the screw to pull it in. Instead, the plastic piece with the screw hole broke off. Can't tell by looking, but I'll probably end up replacing it again.

Just did this, looks great with AMG logo instead of black airbag logo plate.

Got a great deal from this guy in Latvia, came in 7 days flat for $115 shipped to my door.
