This thread is old however I have a 2010 sl600. I am not sure what size the standard brakes were but they caught fire after 4 laps around SPA F1 circuit so I decided to go to the Brembo BBK route. The first thing I would say is that the 405mm front brakes we're considerably lighter than the standard smaller brakes. And the 380mm rear showed the same results.
I returned to SPA and also Silverstone GP and had consistent strong braking throughout the day. My tires couldn't cope but the brakes were awesome.
Just wanted to give some first hand knowledge of the upgrade as their seems to be very little around. By the way I have no doubt that the stock setup is more than sufficient for road use however they cannot cope with consistent braking loads from high speeds.

I had a Brembo GT set ( f+r ) on my E 46 M3 and it transformed it, A superb bit of kit
I also had AP and Stoptech systems on my E92M3s and they were good but not as good (IMHO) as the Brembo GT,
In fact I am thinking or putting a 405 Kit on the front of My C63 125 2011 coupe.

Stock brakes are 360/330 mm f/r with 6/4 piston calipers. They are pretty much the Brembo GT kit. If you run out of brakes on the stock system and have aggressive pads, you might need some driving lessons.

They are definetly not the Brembo GT kit. Not even close. They are great for daily driving however as soon as you put some repetitive hard braking on them they over heat and fade very quickly. You say "they are pretty much the Brembo GT kit" this means you have never used a Brembo after market kit.

I can only talk from real world comparisons and i have driven a 2014 sl63 AMG with stock brakes and the 2010 sl600 on Brembo BBK and the BBK out performed the stock by a large margin. With the stock fading over a 20min run. I will say that the BBK were larger discs so not apples to apples however most people who upgrade brakes will also go to a larger size.
I also used the BBK on my E46 M3 with fantastic results. I do not know the internal changes or technical advantages however I can tell you their is no comparison. These results are on track and will probably not be relevant on the road.
