Need Some Input Guys - Warranty Question

Hello gentlemen,

I have the option to buy a warranty for my car - currently it has no warranty. It's an 08 model with 65,000kms (40,000 miles). Now to be honest, I don't know the strengths and weaknesses of the C63 other than the headbolt issue. The price seems ok but then again each claim is limited to $1357 (unlimited claims). Below is the info. I would really appreciate if you have a minute to click the link and see if what they cover is worth it or if it's a waste of time? Thanks so much.

The price I have is:

Cover type : Gold
Duration of cover : 12 months / 25000 Kms
Max claim liability USD: US$ 1357.00 per claim (unlimited no of claims during policy period)
Premium in USD : US$ 1395.00

Alternatively I can pay $2300 for 2 years or 50,000 kms.

hmm from the info you provided... my analysis is as such:

cost 1395 but your max claim amount per is 1357. Pretty much means that you're only going to be ahead if you have multiple minor failures in the given year of coverage. with age, there is a chance of more minor issues failing but then again, you need to have at least 2 of these in the year to see a benefit. Assuming no deductable

imo, this warranty doesnt do much against the headbolt issue... also, an alternative is to create a sep bank acount and put 1400 in it every year as your own 'warranty'

Thanks Fung,

It all seemed good for the price until I saw the maximum claim limit. I don't mind payin for these small claims myself but I want a warranty that will fork out the high amount needed for the major issues. $1300 payout on these cars is kind of pathetic and not even worth it.

Out of interest, what is the headbolt issue gonna cost if it starts going but spotted early?

Thanks

if you dont catch it early enough.... it can be like 20k+

however, more recent costs are coming in around 7-9k since our members are aware of the symptoms. and hopefully your local MB will goodwill some of those costs too

Have you shopped other warranties?

For what is it worth I have a warranty with Wheelz on my 2006 Clk500. I got a 3 year warranty on my car when purchased (75k miles). The warranty is approximately 1100 dollars a year. I've had a great experience with them.

I recently had the rear main seal fixed on my car (not an uncommon issue) and it ran around 1500 bucks, the warranty took care of it np. I've had little issues like my Gas Actuator not actuating and other stuff and that warranty took care of it fine.

Not saying it will be the best for your car but I would definitely shop around for other warranties.

Thank you everyone,

Unfortunately there's one company out here called Gulf Warranties and they have a monopoly on the market. They're the only ones to provide aftermarket warranties so it's either go with the above or ignore it. Now I'm at two minds to sell the car as I don't want to have to pay out around $7000 / 8000 in repairs on a car.

But you are assuming you will have the head bolt issue. As I understand it, all owners of the cars have not experienced the problem.

I know man, that's why I am at two minds. The thing is I don't want to play Russian Roulette with circa 8000 bucks. Am considering shopping around in the US for a 2010 model and importing it. Will need to figure this out.

Do you by any chance know what's the cost, as preventative measures, to replace the headbolts with the newer headbolts? Thanks

Is it fair to say that the majority of the AMG's which do not get track time are safe?

No, I don't think that's a safe assumption.
