Smoke from exhaust

Hi everyone, only had my c63 a couple of weeks but noticed smoke from the exhaust on startup occasionally (more than I would consider normal). Any ideas what this could be?

Many thanks,
Andrew

Light white stuff smells as if it could be oil though.

Question

This issue has been raised a few times....I have experienced it myself.
I think you'll find it happening if you restart the car, some time later, after if it has previously only been running for a very short time.
Other C63 owners have experienced it...it's obviously not a problem.
Cheers, Pickles.

Keep an eye out for that....it might be coolant. If it's sweet smelling then its coolant, usually accompanied by white smoke. If it's oil, it would be darker smoke. If you have any warranty on the vehicle let your dealer know ASAP, so they have a record of it.

Oil smoke is generally blueish in colour.

Things it could be
Condensation in the pipes. Light white smoke
Coolant burning. Dense white smoke
Oil Burning. Blueish smoke
Transmission Fluid Burning. Blueish smoke

or a combination of both or all of them.

I have been having a problem with my slk that is out of the blue puffs massive amounts of blue smoke once and a while under startup.

First thing I did was correct the oil level in the car... seemed to help for a while.
Second thing I did was change the oil to a 40 weight... seems to help dramatically.
Next step I'll change it to 5W40 and the problem should be solved.

Dealer here said to use 5W30 which I should have questioned because every Benz I had always took a 40 weight oil.

Basically what I have determined is happening in my case was when the engine shuts off not all the valves close... and the light oil was dripping back into the cylinder and then under start up getting burnt off.

Things to remember if it doesn't do it all day long its probably just a minor quirk that needs to be worked out.

Question

Mine was definitely oil smoke.....smokey blue.
And it happened at the most "embarassing" time. The day before, I'd driven around 1000ks to visit friends. I'd stopped the car for a while when I got there, to unload etc. Then a while later, I'd started the car up again for a minute or so to move it into a garage.
The next day, there was a car Club meeting at my friends house, and as several of the members hadn't seen the car, they wanted to see it, and of course, they wanted to hear it.
So, I started it up, & poooofffff,......out comes a single big puff of blue smoke.
When I saw that smoke, I must admit, that I thought something was wrong, but I've sinse learned that other owners have experienced the same thing, in similar circumstances.
The car uses virtually no oil, and under all ordinary driving conditions emits no smoke whatsoever.
Why it happens?......I don't know!
Cheers, Pickles.

Out of curiosity where did you buy your car from... I bet some of these independent dealers that sometimes get there hands on these cars as part of there safety on the car change the oil and just put the generic oil they use in all there cars which could be the cause of the problem.
