OZ Racing C63 Superturismo scrubbing

MBWORLD MEMBERS

I have just got new wheels on my car and the offset is too aggressive for my guards.

Does anyone advise me to shave the wheel hubs? they are cast OZ racing Superturismo wheels.

The photo I have attached is not its ride height but parked on an angle to show where the trouble is. Currently running stock suspension setup.

Thankyou in advance

Michelin PSS runs wider than other brands.

Can u tell us more infos on the wheels specs (size & offset) & tires size? U might have to run more stretch tires than u have now.

You're rubbing on stock height?

Looks like the tire is stretched on the rim... likely the issue isn't the tire being too wide but the offset is likely too aggressive. I was under the impression, maybe incorrectly, that shaving the wheel to adjust the offset was a very risky proposition from a safety perspective but maybe I'm wrong.

If you have enough room between the caliper and the wheel, you could have a machine shop take off some material on the back of the wheel where it bolts to the car.

This will move the outer edge in away from the fender... Just have to measure how much clearance you have from the wheel to the caliper.

Hi Everybody,

Thanks for all your responses.

Unsure as to the rims offset but i believe its a 9.5 rim and a 255-30-19 Michelin Super Sport tyre.

I am going to make a few phone calls tomorrow regarding getting a little meat taken off the rim hub if anyone is happy to do it or knows anyone in sydney.

From what I've found online, I'd say it's either ET35 or ET40 because these are the available offsets with a 5x112 bolt patter.
That is very aggressive (I like the look) but I can't imagine that You have rubbing issues on stock height.

Before shaving off a few mm off the rim hub, do a research whether it is a safe method for cast wheels.

It will tell you the offset on the inner side of the rim it will say: ETXX look at that the XX number is.

Shaving off from the wheel hub? Really? Cause you didn't plan in advance. Not cool bro.

Too bad the offset is so aggressive at +40mm cuz they look hot!!

Run 235/30/19 in the rear like those VW guys are doing. J/k lol

Good luck sorting out a solution.

I agree... shaving the backing plate could be dangerous without understanding what it might do to the structural integrity of the wheel. Maybe nothing but who are we to say (or even a wheel shop for that matter). I would check with the manufacturer before doing it for sure and wouldn't take the advice of anyone just because they "did it to other wheels and it was OK." It would suck if the wheel failed because of advice from someone who wasn't truly able to provide said advice. For example, if you shave the back is there enough thickness to support the bolts?

If it were me, I would sell the wheels and buy something that fits and chock it up to a good learning experience.

^^ I agree, I don't think it's safe to shave cast wheels.

Like I said, run 235... lol

Call Neale wheels, they are in Sydney. They can do the work and also provide sound advice on the engineering side of things, good luck.

Matt, if u are right about the offset it will means OP will have to shave at least 5 to 10mm off the back plate of the wheels hub to make them +45mm or +50mm.. That's a lot of material to shave.. Not safe in my opinion.

I had the same problem with those rims. My car is lowered and I used to run 275 on the rear. Had about 8mm shaved of the inside and problem solved. Been running it like that for almost 2 years. There is enough meat on the inside to shave.

Thanks

@C63sydney - Try not to run anything wider than 265 on the rear.

Love these wheels and think they look killer on the C63. Any new updates. Do you have to shave the inside with stock set up? No other way around it? Not plug and play?

As far as I know C63sydney had the rear wheels shaved down a bit and a new custom hubring made up. Fits nicely now.

I don't even want to understand. But I do love those wheels but am not willing to grind rotors wheel or tires. Just too much trouble. On a side note, you're like a brother to me Zeph. We are a tag team of satire. May the troll be with you.

I agree Khmer...I have this forum bromance with you here LOL... I think our mods are the same and in the same order pretty much. The troll is always with me, and may it be with you.

Yeah the wheels look killer but the whole grinding thing is killing me. I don't want to tear up $4000 wheels like that right away...If they didn't fit I would just end my life and call it a day...

I have also called around and don't even know where to buy them...tirerack was ABSOLUTELY no help even though they sell OZ...
