Carbonio CF Airbox Install, Etc
Installing the airboxes. There is a charcoal filter built into the top of the OEM airbox. I assume I do not need to remove that, as long as I have installed the K & N air filter in the bottom of the box and attached the new CF airbox top on.
Here are some pics of the start of the install.

Usually the charcoal delete is associated with sport filters like K&N for better efficiency. So i guess you should do it while you install your new air boxes.

They came with K & N's. So I am installing them. So that answers my question. The top filter is a charcoal filter, and I can delete that if I am using a filter like K & N or AFE. Thanks!

Nice pick up! Those are not cheap!
Question: in your second picture of the original air box, what is that connector socket called? I've been trying to figure this out for a while. I thought it was the MAF sensors, but that is further back in the engine.

More pics. Some reason I had an issue with the driver's side box, and I've emailed them to ask for a replacement. I am sure they will be good about it.
But for now I have the MAF on with electrical tape.
I let the car run for a few minutes, and then took it on a short drive. First two times I accelerated it hiccuped, but then after that smooth sailing.
I will give it a longer drive tomorrow. See if I notice any differences.

I have been having this issue and trying to find a solution for a long time now! If you figure anything out please let me know! I have tried everything but the MAF's are extremely sensitive and need to be sitting at a perfect angle. I have even had to get new MAF's at one point, thank god god for warranty.
Let me know how your car starts up today I hope everything is ok but I did the same thing and let it sit overnight and the next day the cold start was not normal at all. You also might get a CEL light for "Mass air flow". I have put my OEM boxes back on and now I cant get these dam hiccups to go away!
Good luck I never tried the electrical tape so hopefully you get something to work.

I was able to start to car no problems. No hiccups.
I wonder how much better the Renntech Airboxes work? Anyone tried those and the Carbonio to compare?

I have not dynoed the car. Will this summer. But I definitely think I feel a bit more pick up around the 3,000 rpm mark.
I had an e-mail from Mark at Carbonio. They are sending out a replacement airbox for the one that has the issue with the screw. So should be here shortly. Fast service. I got my airbox mainly for astetics, with the hopes that going to a K & N filter would help. I think the car is fast enough at this point. So after the Carbonio and the Gruppe M style RAM airintake are done, it's time for more carbon fibre components for the interior.

Decided to put the hood badge sticker on the airbox to see what it would look like. I may order two of these off EBAY as I think it looks good on the airbox.
The logo is 52mm in width.

i know what you mean by hiccup, i took off the charcoal filters and added weistec filters. I got a check engine light as soon as i gave it everything .. the hiccup happens when i floor it in a higher gear while it's in lower RPM, it cuts of the gas a few times, lags in acceleration, sometimes 3-4 times before the needle gets to a higher RPM range. other than that, when i accelerate at higher RPM then dump the gas pedal, the car slows down more than it used to, it dosent "coast" as much as it used to before when i lift of the pedal.
i have a full AP exhaust+headers and Kleemann tune, and this has deffinetly added some more umph i can say that much, the shifts are a bit stronger for some reason, and the car seems to accelerate at a significantly higher pace after each shift. Also, somehow, my exhaust note changed, it gargles more now, which im very happy about.
any advice on what i should do about the CEL ? will it go away ? if not, im just gonna put everything back the way it was.
on another note, weistec people, i think there is an issue with the fitment of your filters, they are very high quality, but they dont seem to seal the boxes like stock

Some more pics. I had to replace te driver's side airbox as there was a problem with the threading in the airbox to secure the MAF. But Carbonio sent me a replacement very quickly, and the new one is perfect. Here are some more pics.
Next thing I need to do is put the MB Logo on the engine cover.

So as I said before, the Carbonio engine cover does not come with the MB emblem on it. They suggest dremmelig out the OEM one from the OEM cover.
I want to hang the OEM one on my wall in the garage, so I had to come up with another solution.
I could not find a replacement engine emblem online at a decent price, so I tried the following:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/290813494325?item=290813494325&viewitem=&vxp=mtr
I ordered a wheel hub emblem in carbon fibre from the EBAY seller above. The carbon fibre looks like the 3M stuff and not a proper overlay, but it was cheap to buy.
I could not get it to fit properly, it was so close, but just off. So I cut the tabs off underneath the wheel hub cap, and then used contact cement to stick the emblem to the Carbonio engine cover.
Looks pretty good.
