C63 AMG 2009 Two broken head bolts
Well after reading all the horror stories about coolant warning lights coming on, it finally caught up with me. I have a 2009 C63 AMG with 51,800 miles and just learned that the car has 2 broken head bolts.
This goes back to the questionable bolts Mercedes initially used when they assembled the C63 engines. They redesigned the bolts and came out with a new part numbers.
Talked to Mercedes USA and local dealer. They haven't done squad to help me out with the huge repair. I fortunately bought an extended warranty when I purchased the car new. So they are pointing to the warranty I paid for.
In reality this is a Mercedes issue, and it is sad to see their reaction and how they stand behind their supreme product. I will not forget this when I purchase my next car......

This sucks big time. Sorry to hear that. It's bull**** that MB hasn't reacted to this issue with a product recall. Good luck. Keep us posted how the story goes.

My mother's Range Rover Evoque was just recalled for "faulty headbolts" .. the dealer told her to come in and they changed them! Wish mercedes would do this!!

Sounds like you will be taken care of fine...good luck with the repair. At the rate these cases are mounting up - a rate I now expect will increase substantially as the next year plays out - MBZ might need to proactively address the situation. Only they can calculate the damage to the brand by letting this go on...

We seem to be reaching a tipping point as these issues become more common. MB probably calculated that paying for these one at a time is a negligible accounting debit, but at some point, enough is enough. I think bhamg is right...over the next year or so, all of the '08s and '09s will be hitting that 50k+ mile mark and we'll start to see what MB is willing to do.

Ouch not again. I think it sucks since this is the same as I can have this car until I reach the millage when the insurance stops to cover this issue. So in the next 1,5 year I NEED to sell the car and get a new one. Even if I just bought this one and my intentions was to keep it for more than that. :-(

Load up our end of the teeter-totter... someone send some broken and intact bolts to "andrey" who asked a few weeks back. I am ready to consult a metal lab . Someone send them to me (PM). I'm tired of waiting for mine to fail. Stop allowing MB to hoard the evidence.
MB has chosen to believe only wild eyed, heavy footed finactics buy the C63 and that apparently the "noise" level defect is acceptable. It has really soured me on their products. Anyone want to "experiment" with the new turbo 4?

Hypothetical question; who would know about this "potential" issue? Obviously those of us who are on this forum, perhaps there is a bunch of drivers out there who do not frequent this forum? Soooooo, how big an exposure is this to MB? The only way to get any action is to get into the public domain, name and shame, get the future MB owners into the picture. As motoman alluded to, who is going to be the spear tip on the A/CLA45? I have driven it and won't be jumping out of my 63 anytime soon.

its not really "common". In the past 4 yrs at the 40 tech shop im at with tons of amg's we've done 3 sets. yes theres a bulletin and theres bulletins for all sorts of random stuff be it common or not.

Ya ok it might be a bit rare, but the trouble is, it hits guys that are out of warranty with a repair bill thats over 10k easy.
People don't buy a benz to worry about their engine exploding, people are loosing faith in the brand.
C63 is the most popular AMG out there. The average car guy didn't know jack **** about MB or AMG until the C63 came along.. Now you see them lots and everyone knows what an AMG is about.
Everyone that goes to buy a used one does a simple search and the headbolt thread comes up. Theres lots of guys that are not going to buy and getting into something else.
Either way its a slap in the face to the customer. Benz should be covering these bolts 100% if they pop off up to a certain km or something. Stand behind your product and quit worrying about dollars and cents, there is more to a business than your bottom line.

I agree, this is my 3rd AMG and fifth MB and it may be my last. I thought I was going to keep my C63 for long time but now, I feel like its a ticking time bomb. I only have 10K miles on it. Shame on MB for not taking care of this situation and loyal owners.

Merc, well said. If nothing more comes of the "headbolt" sticky, I hope for at least very bad press for MB AMG. MB and Porsche have recently shown their arrogance with cheap, empty responses. A revelation to me. The CLA is striking but I would not touch it for 5 years. What do you think the 30 PSI in the AMG version is wating to do to the components in that engine?
Too much to hope perhaps, but the sticky may be gaining momentum?

I got a low coolant warning, topped off with a couple oz of water, drove 2 days and it was normal, although, I decided that it worried me enough to take the proactive approach and tackle the job before hand. total cost to me with new plugs, new motor mounts and the factory upgraded bolts, new header gaskets and I supplied the oil, $2400.00.

Guys I'm bringing this same issue to my lawyers attention. There was apparently a class action law suit going on against Mercedes for customers that bought an MB with the M156 from 07-11. I'm hoping that I won't have to face the same issue with one of my car. In my case though I've recorded each and every visit to the dealer during and after the warranty which is what anyone experiencing these problems should do because if it's out of warranty you are definitely going to bare the costs to fix the issue.
