First Track Day

I took my C63 out with the Porsche Club of America at Virginia International Raceway (Full Course) and had a blast. Some of the cars out there were insane! I am definitely hooked. I ran stock alignment and 35 psi cold in the Conti 5Ps. The car had a lot left in her, but I was still learning the track and feeling things out. My memory card got full before the session was over, so I only got about half of it on video. Before we started, the instructors were arguing over who was going to ride in my car! and everyone complimented me, especialy on the sound.

now for the pics

and the video. I pass the traffic around the 6 min mark

VIR is a great track!

What was your GoPro mounted on and did you have any overheating problems?

GoPro was mounted like this. I think it's too far back, causing the outside to be overexposed and washed out.

As far as overheating, I was really worried. It was about 70 degrees and on the slow out lap I was at 258 on the oil temp before I got to the bridge straight. As you can see, we were taking it pretty easy then. I figured once I actually opened it up I wouldn't have much time before limp mode. But once I let loose, it stabilized around 265. That's still a little high for my liking but better than expected. I'd like to try a different oil and that cooling plate that was recently posted and go from there. Brakes and water temp...those never crossed my mind, which is a good thing.

Interesting on the mount. What exactly is that and how does it connect to the seat?

On cooling, 270 is magic number for me for limp mode. As a tip, shift up one extra gear when you can on straight to reduce revs while it breathes.

this is the mount I got. you can build something similar with some pvc pipe and some u-bolts from home depot but I was lazy and wanted it to look good. it clamps on the posts of the headrest and the GoPro just attaches using the standard tripod mount you can get at Best Buy for $8.

this is the helmet I used. cheap, does it's job, will last awhile and is super comfy. I ordered from ogracing and it was on my doorstep in 2 days. great place to order from.

Looks like a great time!!
I've never had the privilege of running VIR yet. Heard its a very technical and difficult track. Kinda a mixture of Road Atlanta and Sebring. :-)
I will finally be there July 3rd/4th with Chin if anyone wants to join us.

Be Safe!

July 3/4. I'll see what I can do to make it out there! I'd love to meet some people and see some other C63s. All the other car meets I have been to, I have seen only 1 other AMG (C32). What event are you doing?

I did my first HPDE a few weeks ago at Summit Point, WV. It was a great experience first time on the road course. Looks like something i will be doing more and more when time allows in my schedule. I ended up joining NASA mid atlantic, picked up my helmet and got the car ready with new brakes all around. Car performed well with the Continental tires i had on it. Still need to work on my lines and then off to better tires for track.
