my wife bananas! :D
i think your car now is screaming for some CF bits (mode carbon spoiler, vorsteiner diffuser, akrym front lip etc) and the look will be perfect.

If you have used plastidip you will know what it does to the surface of the paint after awhile. Just ask someone who had it for a year, pulled it off, then tried to get their car detailed ... it is like having dust blasted at the surface constantly. The paint will never again be smooth. It would take days of clay-barring to get it into an "OK" condition. Plus it wont come off from everywhere. So yes I do think he is foolish to plastidip the car. I respect the effort and colour choice but unless he's ok taking that value out of the car then thats fine. I didnt even get to the part where plastidip never looks smooth on the surface. There is always bumps and orange peel which you dont get from vinyl. Oh and did I mention that vinyl wont ruin the paint!

And I got a good beating from people about the stickers and I didnt once complain or try to justify it. Opinions are great to listen too but we dont ever have to adhere to them. Would you paint your car with plastidip or wrap it in vinyl?... I know too many people that would choose the later. Especially when we have an awesome shop in restyle it here in the GTA.

how long-term have you plasti-dipped things?
I've dipped things FOR A FULL YEAR, and successfully removed the dip without any issue/paint/clearcoat/whatever damage. as have many others.

remember, the plural (or singular, for that matter) of anecdote is NOT data.

and, frankly, I dont particularly care if it *does* somehow, magically, against all odds go wrong and do irreparable damage to my car and its value.

The moment I buy a car I assume it loses 100% of its value. If I get anything out of it when I sell it beyond $0, I consider it a win. Anyone who does otherwise is crazy.

Lest anyone think I'm full of it, I guarantee that the flat black + glossy pink racing stripes paint job we put on my wife's Exige S hurt the resale value quite a bit (and cost nearly $10,000). Didnt stop us from doing it!

And at least the plasti-dip is a lot cheaper

I dont comment on much but I just had to voice my opinion on this. Because I cant think of a nicer way to put it, it looks terrible. I cant believe anyone would do this to any car.

You're quite welcome to your opinion. As I've said to other folks who dont like it: thank goodness its my car, not yours

Makes me wish AMG's were offered in more than just boring colors, most MB colors just plain suck. Before I picked up my C63 I almost bought a sakhir orange M5 just because of the color lol

Newbie here. I like that it's unique - not my ideal color, but interesting to see. Thanks for sharing!

I did Plasti dip on my acura, just on the rims. 1 year later, the plasti dip has yet to come off the tires from over spray, just from seeing other cars, that stuff won't come out from within the door jams.

But as long as you like it, who cares. looks nice

Looks much much better.. I even like the colour.

However, couple of things, the chrome piece on teh trunk above the license place and around the fog lights, make those black as well. They look out of place being the same colour as the body.

The chrome side marker also looks out of place being the only chromed item (unless it just looks shiny in the picture, but it looks chromed to me.

The only real issue I have though with plastidip.. is that it makes the car look like one of my 1 year olds colourful toys It really does look like rubbery.. kinda like a giant car condom

I would have to see it in person... (I'm usually around the Balston area or Annapolis area).

Side note.. how does one take care of plastidip.. I cannot see you polishing or buffing the surface without ripping up the coating?

I removed it a while ago. I was going to put on a CF spoiler that I got, but it never wanted to go on right, so I'm just spoiler-less for now.

the side marker is smoked, just looks chrome in the picture.

its a matte finish, so I dont know why I would polish or buff it?

If you want a gloss finish, they have a glossifier for it, which also hardens it a bit and seems to work better for that sort of thing.

Not sure I agree on blacking out those other pieces (not to mention, holy crap, doing the fog surrounds? that would be a nightmare!)

Well, I already got the overspray out from the door jams... so I'm guessing the people you saw were just full of fail?

Looks terrific, definitely a head-turner.

Sorry newbie question - how does it hold up to rock chips?

so far, so good
I've put 400+ miles on it already with only minor rock damage. thankfully its super easy to fix (adding more dip re-liquifies the stuff underneath and it sort of repairs itself)

it's also rubber, basically, so its reasonably resilient to that sort of thing

The fog surrounds pop right out with a little bit of work, you would not dip them on the car.

still not sold on doing the surround for the fogs, tbh. I like the way the front-end looks currently. but, different strokes, right?
