Dipped my C63
I know its a tad controversial around these parts, but over the weekend I had my C63 plasti-dipped. All of it
Before:
After:
I'd be lying if I said I didnt absolutely love how it turned out. I was never one for subtlety, what can I say.
For anyone curious, the color is Koi Orange, with the wheels and grille obviously done in black.

As mentioned above the grilles and maybe the mirrors in black but it looks sweet! Did you do it yourself? If so, you end up getting the kit from dipyourcar with the sprayer and everything?

I originally did it myself (yes, with the kit from DYC), but it came out *really* bad - I cant paint things to save my life. So I took it to the shop of a friend, and he re-did it for me over the weekend, infinitely better than the job I had originally done lol.

Haha eh, happens. Did he end up using the same kit or something different?

I see you even plasti-dipped your tires
PLEASE re-do the lower grille in black. It looks really bad in orange.
Other than that it looks ok - I am yet to see a dipped car in person.

lol that stuff gets EVERYWHERE. The wheels+tires were totally covered in plastic, all around, so I have no idea how it got through to them anyway. oh well, it'll come off after a little driving.
I'm undecided on the lower grilles, so far, myself. We'll see how I feel after a few weeks. They may get redone in black, they may not.

Looks good for ppl who loves plasti-dip vs wrap.
But I honestly think your shop got a lil lazy for not covering the lower grill, emblems & tires with masking tape before spraying... spraying your tires with plasti-dip is dangerous for the first drive.. like armor-all your whole tires. LOL

... I didnt want them to cover the emblems?
and I could swear I mentioned, they did cover the tires. I could post the pictures, if you like, of the tires completely covered in plastic. I actually think that dip you see was picked up from the dust on the floor, when pulling out of the shop.
And, I asked them to dip the lower grill. It was already orange from when I dipped the car myself (poorly) a few weeks ago. They were going to re-do them in black, but they had a hard time getting them off the car, and we were on a tight timeline (they had the car for about a day), so they just re-did it better in orange.
so, in summary, none of the things you dont like were the shop's fault

Thx for the explanations, it makes sense now... I thought they sprayed the tires.. LOL
And yeah, the lower grill looks weird orange.. black would be a better choice. Since it's plasti-dip, can you just rub it off?

Yeah, I probably could, though with all the edges/holes/etc on the grill it would probably be a massive PITA
doesnt mean I wont do it, but I'm not going to rush to, either. It would take some time, so if I do it I want to make sure I dont do it halfway

Looks great except lower grills look terrible. Looks like you were too lazy to to remove them or mask them. do the grills black and this is a WIN!

Alexandria? Kinda looks like the Rose Hill area? If so, let me know. Just bought a second car as a DD and I'm about to try to spend the next couple of weeks vinyl wrapping my C63 like a panel at a time. I'd like to see how the plastidip looks in person though.

I like it! Plastidip is some cool stuff. I did my grill and emblems last week and had the pillars and trip wrapped in vinyl. How d you anticipate it holding up? Did they thin it out or anything to make it lay perfectly flat like paint or does it still have some texture to it?
Looks good though! I am sure you will have plenty of people checking you out all the time, so hope you enjoy the attention!

The dip we used comes pre-thinned.
I expect it to hold up pretty well. I self-dipped my grill about a year ago, and it still looked pretty good when I dropped it off to get redone on friday.
My DD used to be a Lotus, so I'm used to the attention
It has minimal texture to it. I dont think you'd mistake it for regular paint, either, though.

I hate it. No offence but why ruin a car's finish by covering it in plastidip? (vinyl is different) The plastidip gives a rough finish and looks 10x worse in person than in pictures. I like the colour and dont even mid the orange mesh but anyone who plastidips an entire car is a fool in my mind. I did my winter wheels and the stuff is not as "Surface Friendly" as they say. -I ended up stripping them and painting them. This is just my opinion and by all means take it with a grain of salt. The only thing that matters is whether you are happy or not.
