Head Bolt issue - Aussie Members
I know merc63 on this forum did them 1 x 1 and his running a stage 3 supercharger and he beats the hell outta it and he has had no problems
ill will PM you now he was all down for doing the job
My rationale on not getting it done is as follows ;
1. Rare - I mean I got the car washed today and there were 3 other pre facelifts and just don't see the issue in enough volume to warrant it.
2. I get the car regularly serviced (twice since bought last dec which as just an out of cycle oil change and the B service recently) and assume (and hope) they check all fluids and in between servicing, if the coolant light comes on, there must be an issue to lose fluid in such a short period of time and would then if needed, spring for the headbolt replacement.
3. Hopefully by that time, it can be rectified as apposed to regularly topping up coolant which probably may mean an underlying issue.
4. These cars seem pretty bulletproof. Most times I have read through the forum with a headline of some issue (not that this relates directly to headbolts), by the second or third line of the post, the owner has some sort of tune or mod and am not seeing too many issues with stock cars.
5. I plan to keep the car for 4 - 5 years and if someone said to me that I will 100% have to pay $5k in that lifespan to change some headbolts or I can have a M3 or RS4 or M5 or XFR with no issues, I still would have bought it as it just simply is the coolest car i believe that you can get being a mid size car with an overstuffed, oversized engine and a headturner that only an italian exotic can match.
6. It appear that MB do assist for even out of warranty cars and even though there is never anything official regarding this, it does appear to be the norm.
Cheers
I'd be budgeting at least $2k a year on a 5-6 yr old AMG, outside of any major issues.
I showed you the quote I had from MB Bris for 2 new front struts, a power steer fluid tank and front diff bushes . . . Keep that in mind.
If worse comes to worse and something big goes bang, there are 2nd hand engines and gearboxes on eBay for not so silly money.
Any advice re what this will cost if mb don't want to come to the party?

But again, sorry to hear this has happened and hope to hear how you progress.
Next time I'm out after 10 mins warning message comes up, I ignore do my usual commute from home/work work/home, at home check again but this time 1.5 litres missing and I think this cant be right. Take it to the mechanics, the put it on the hoist and theres coolont every where on the underside of the car.
After they check it out it appears theres a hose of some sort where coolont is leaking from. After this is replaced they pressure test the car and it uses about 1 litre of coolant in 5 minutes, no leak or coolant anywhere so going straight into the engine.
Diagnosis...not good
Prognosis...t.b.a but I've got my arguing shoes on and heading to Mercedes today for what Im sure will be the first of many trips
But I have just purchased some and are waiting for them to arrive along with some other things so sonny might just be doing his first c63 head bolt job soon
If you did mot have one and are in the range just vote uour mileage to date in the same poll
Bear in mind there are over 40,000 units in the range, 13,000 from 2007-2008 alone, which will have higher mileage by now
So far only a hand full of failures, at least documented

what month was your 09 built in??
