Yes H&R use the original top mounts, and yes there is a bearing in those... i think the bearing is the problem for all with "Noise" the bearing comes in another angle when the coilover is mounted...

Thanks for info. I'll check the top mounts and see if there is any major sign of use on the bearings.

For anyone who is having problems with clunking noises from their H&R coilovers - as bhamg suggested, I replaced the bearings under my top mounts. Each bearing cost $30. The noises are gone for now. We'll see for how long.
I'll keep you updated if the noises come back.

When I installed my C/O's I also changed the bearing on the D/S, that eliminated my horrible clunking noise.

Great information in this thread. Olszowa, do you daily drive your wagon? I want to see if this makes a difference to the clunking im having in my car (C63 Sedan on H&R Coils). I only get the clunking after driving for 20+ minutes, when the car is hot.

Yes my car is daily driven. In the last 2 days I haven't heard the noise even once.
You will pay more for the labor than for the parts because the coilovers need to be taken out and you will need a new allignment afterwards.

Check the sway bar end links. Mine did the same thing after I lowered it. Tighten it up and boom!
