Guys, are these the flaps that are moved depending on the vacuum of the engine that changes the flow through the manifold , in effect a dual plane manifold, short runner- long runner for torque and power thru the RPM range. If so there is a repair procedure on the internet for the broken plastic actuators. May be totally off base but would pay
for itself for a little investigation. 3500 is a lot to pay for a seal or potential DYI.
Also would not drive the car with this vacuum leak, could lean out a cylinder or burn a valve.

Noticed the car has a bit of a rough idle also...kinda feels like a stutter but thats probably from whatever is F'ed up..Did you hear anything back from you're dealer yet? Thinking of getting this fixed in the week or so...Don't really wanna be driving with something screwed up.

Dropped off the car this morning and got a call from my SA few minutes ago. He says they still have not been able to figure out the source of the sound. He said its on and off and will have to keep my car overnight and dig more into the issue. I did not utter words like 'intake' 'manifold' 'vacuum leak' etc etc since I did not want to put ideas in his head :-p hopefully they will find by tomorrow and hopefully they wont find my tune and give me a headache.

Did they say it was like a seal/tumble flap? Or just manifold?

Got my car back last evening. SA told me that it was the intake manifold and they replaced it under warranty. There's no turbine sound now *knock wood*
I was so glad to get my car back after driving the C250 loaner for almost a week. I couldn't be happier hopping into my seat :-)

Sidv22, Good to hear you got your car back.
Was the car under factory warranty from new, extended warranty, or was it dealer option to cover your issue.
Was wondering as it seems to be a weak point with this setup.
Again Happy Motoring

Thanks Critter! It was covered under factory warranty. My extended warranty hasn't kicked in yet although my SA clarified that it would have been covered under extended warranty as well. Yes, it does seem like a weak point. I honestly feel that they should announce a factory recall for vehicles with bad headbolts which is another inherent issue.

Car: C63 PP+
I have the same "whistle" when driving very very slow or standing.
When i go faster the noise is gone.
If i give some revs the noise goes the same way higher.
When car cold no noise.
First i thought perhaps some fan/cooler to cool down the car when it's warm and driving slow in town. But now i read here something about intake manifold.
It's not easy to translate into germay.
How can i check if thats my problem?
What part or parts do you exact speak about?
Do you have pictures?
What parts did MB Dealer changed?
Some pictures or bill with part numbers?
Hope you can help me out a little bit - thank you very much!!

I LOVE the turbine noise of my monster. Reminds me of the saying
"With great power comes great responsibility..."
Makes me feel like I'm capable of helping Optimus Prime save the planet.

I`ve made 2 soundfiles.
First without that whistle. You can hear the fan starting at 0:10.
Second one with whistle (starts at 0:17).
What do you think, is this a normal noise or something about Intake manifold?
Does your car do same noises?

that whistle is NOT normal. I'm thinking vacuum leak. I get a slight, brief whistle on cold start about 10 seconds after start for 5 seconds or so; not sure if that is normal but I've never heard anything like what you've recorded.
