I thought the 335is from 2011-2013 came with the DCT?

It did. The 135 and Z4 have DCT option as well.

You're absolutely incorrect.

"Our test car came fitted with BMW’s DCT dual-clutch automated manual ($1575)—new to non-M threes and exclusive to the 335is."

And you sounded so confident too!

If you read that article the DCT in the non M vehicles were ONLY offered in the IS models. Further more the original poster stated that it was found in the N54 equipped vehicles. The IS model 335's only came with the single turbo N55 engines. And was debut'd in 2011.

It's odd because if you look at the pics car and driver posted
It shows a manual equipped vehicle.

Getrag DCT rwd is good for 700 Nm (510 lb ft)
the ZF autos are rated for 1000 Nm (740 lb ft)

the MB auto 7 sp is good for 540 lb ft, the 5 sp 800 lb ft
this is why MB, Brabus, et al use autos and limit torque to ~1000 Nm

I'll have to do some digging but I think it's a possibility that there were some "is" models that the N54.

Good info.
I'd rather have a massive amount of torque than a slightly quicker DCT trans.

The 7 speed auto is greatly improved, now called the 7g tronic+. It's what's in the SL65 now and capable of at least 738 tq.

The upcoming 9 speed is also rated at 738 tq, matching the V12tt output. It's been designed with AMG in mind. I expect to see the 9 speed in upcoming AMG cars either as the regular 9 speed auto or a 9MCT config.

The N54 was in the 335is.

The 7G MCT with a wet clutch has a torque capacity of 1100Nm/811ft-lbs.

The 9G has a torque capacity of 1000Nm/738ft-lbs with a torque converter. There has been no announcement of a MCT wet clutch version of the 9G yet, but expect it to have an even higher torque capacity.

Yes
When can we realistically expect the new 9spd?

Having a hard time waiting on the new C63 and may bite on an e63 in the meantime but this trans situation (m5's is so much better) has me hesitating.

Yeah he's incorrect. I've got an N54 equipped DCT BMW (Z4) so can compare directly to my Benz.

MCT is good enough but DCT is a superior trans. AMG can build one to suit I'm sure.

The December 23 issue of AutoWeek has an article on the W205. It says the C63 is getting the bi-turbo 4.0 liter motor but there is no mention of the tranny. Release date is indicated as late 2014.

The new Corvette is AW's car of the year.

not quite accurate

MCT from AMG can handle more than 1000Nm (740lb ft) for sure.

my CLS63PP currently is about 1130Nm (840lbs-ft) to the rear wheels. on Mainline dyno. stock 720NM (540lbs-ft) to the real wheels.

you do the engine calculation power.

and Brabus limits the Torque to 1200Nm

9 speed is already available in the e class diesel. My guess is the 9 speed MCT will come out with the SL or a new E class.

We do not need 9 speed freaking boxes.. sheesh this fuel economy thing is getting out of hand. Fine for regular econoboxes, but when you come to muscle, fuel economy is not something that is at the top of the factor list.

Looks like a miniature E63 to my eyes.

I would rather the C63 (it will be called the C63; it's been confirmed) have a few more details differentiating it from the E63.

How fast is the MCT versus a real double clutch like the M3, GTR, etc?

Yes
Not as fast...noticeably slower. But not unbearable like your standard "shiftable auto". It gets the job done but there is that millisecond where it's like eh, could be faster...

W204 C63 Coupe, W166 ML350 BlueTEC, 928GT, C5 Z06 & IS300 race cars, EQE 4Matic+ on order
In S+ or M mode the MCT shifts in under 100 milliseconds.
