lights and auto-dim rear and side mirror (driver) turning on/off??

lights and auto-dim rear and side mirror (driver) turning on/off??
had this several times this couple of weeks..
i noticed that the auto-dim rear and side mirrors were (stuck at) 'dimmed' and it was bright/12noon outside..
also - the headlight indicators were turning on/off (knob set at auto)..
what i did was just set the knob to off (turned off the headlights) - assumed that it'll also turn off the auto-dimming mirrors.. and it worked!
now (this week) seems pretty normal.. knob set at auto again.
but now sure what was going on.. any thoughts? any sensors (or fuses?) that I need to look/check?

Sounds like a problem with the auto headlights. Obviously, when the headlights are on, the auto dimming feature is on, and you mention that the auto lights were turning in and off in daylight. I'd start there.
