not so amusing insurance problem

HOV lane violation fines are no joke in CA. $380 for the first, $1,000 for the second.

wow its not nearly as severe in FL. $200ish for each offense. there are two statutes, one carries 1 point and the other carries no points. 1 point is assessed if you are actually observed entering or exiting the lane. 0 points and fine only if you are caught in the lane itself. its rather muddled and vague, arguably on purpose.

Va State Police are pretty serious on catching HOV violaters. They sit and wait at the entrance/off ramps to get you. Even those who sit on the shoulder a few minutes before HOV ends, they can/will ticket you for parking on shoulder non emergency.
Thats ridiculous that your insurance is gouging you. But then again, from their point, you are obeying the rules for HOV and wait other things are you not obeying (speed limit, traffic lights, etc).

Where in South FLorida was this?
Had to be North Broward or Palm Beach County as Dade did away with the HOV lane a few years back.
My insurance rates have gone up from $117/month to $143/month (for the E55 and SC300) in the last two years for no reason. The insurance companies blame it on Insurance Fraud. Its rampant in south florida with so many people on the take.
Well why punish the guy that hasn't filed a claim in ten years? How about a insurance company offering plans to people that live an honest life?
The HOV lane cost increase surprises me though. Its obviously a reason to gain revenue.

Oh, gotcha. yes, you are right, this was discussed up top i think.
in FL, these tickets are basically parking tickets. state farm never penalized me for them previously so i thought nothing of it and paid them. that was not the case w the new carrier.

I took the wrong exit leaving SF one day and got hit with a $466 ticket. I was stuck in the left of two turning lanes which were both carpool only. I couldn't have safely exited without cutting across 3 lanes.
My beef is, why does that ticket cost 3x more than a texting ticket when no one is in danger. Major BS.
