OBD Reader Questions
I don't know too much about them. I'd like to get a decent one. Mercedes model if they have it.
Will using the reader show up as the ecu being "tampered" with? Or is it just a reader? I'm pretty much clueless on handheld tuners and readers.

I picked up an OBDII scanner from Amazon.
I use it along with the Torque app on my android phone. It works really well and it won't be considered tampering with your ECU.

I have one you're not gonna get a "Mercedes specific" model per say but a few years back I picked up a scanner kit from advanced auto parts haha but it works well and can clear and read basic codes. However if you want to clear MB factory codes its not gonna work as far as I know but none the less a good tool to keep in the trunk!

I have an Actron CP 9125 that works on our cars. I had another one that was better but it didn't like my car (or me most likely).
If you're of the android persuasion I'd suggest the Torque app and .
$13 for the bluetooth OBD, and about $5 for the Torque app. I'm sure iOS has their equivalent, but i can attest that this BT OBD and Torque work.
Is this the BT OBD for the rich and famous? Hopefully it does much more at that price.

It has a few more things like security and auto power off which is cool. It reads up to like 50-60 times a second. There's a whole list of stuff it does but too lazy to type it out lol

Any bluetooth obd reader will work with any device that supports bluetooth, that is any phone, any laptop, any desktop, anything.
All it is, is basically a serial port bridge (kinda like a network bridge, or MOCA bridge). Converts a signal from one type to another, in this case serial to wireless and vice versa.
What you need is the software that can read it, so if there is software for the Blackberry, then yes it will work.

Can't comment on the MX but I know the Torque app works if you sideload it, but there's no bluetooth support for 10.1 if I'm not mistaken, so no idea if it'll connect. It's coming in 10.2 with the new android runtime. I'm not sure if BT works in the android runtime for any leaks out right now.

I leave my OBDlink MX in all the time except when I take it in for service. No issues with draining battery and always connects to my phone ad Torque app without any issues.
I can't wait to see how accurate it is when I hit the drag strip.

Ok nevermind.. managed to look up their website and all.. it seems to be a very good reader.. i could use my galaxy mini to pick up the readings from the OBD reader..

Any idea if there's any issues leaving the BT OBD dongle plugged in 24/7? It's small enough that I don't even know it's there so have no problem just leaving it plugged in, but I don't want to kill my battery or something.

Gents, I know this might be the wrong section but since the topic was about OBD scanners I thought I'd ask anyway. Has anyone tried this with a W210? Specifically, a 2001 E55 AMG?
