I think the op believes that mb put a trick secret as such the key signals the ecu to improve response time. I have to say though, with the op's comment on tranny shift from 1 to 3, I'm not sure how to think about his statement in the first place.

Very interesting. Both are such awesome features. I would get both if available on any car!!!

You are correct - IIRC the valet key for the early ZR-1 Corvettes didn't allow the secondary throttle flaps to open and thus limited the engine power to about 200hp in order to prevent joyrides. I've never heard of another car that had a similar feature though. Nowadays valet keys only prevent people from opening the glove box or the trunk, and there certainly isn't anything of the sort on the C63.

yes, I understand what you're trying to reflect upon.

However reasoning behind the escalated performance with the special key was different. The keys essentially unlocked a different performance mapping. Once the engine was started, the key whether keyless or not, doesn't give any input.

Like you said, in our case, the key is a key.

C (comfort) mode always starts you off in 2nd gear... maybe you're not noticing this and assume that when it goes to 3rd gear that it went there straight from 1st gear.

just a theory

It only shifts from 1st to 3rd with the velos tune...I put factory tune back on my car and it's using 2nd again and I have that exhaust crackle often now...Idk why but my tune started to make my car run weird after about a week (someone else on this forum has the same issue)...I already contacted velos..hopefully find a solution.

Anyone who knows internal combustion engine working will understand, the key is no where in that cycle.

doesn't the Boss 302 Mustang have key coding that unlocks some special track features? http://fordracingparts.com/trackey/

not saying the C63 does
this guy is mistaken
the car always goes 1-2-3 , sequentially
I'm not sure it's physically possible to skip a gear with this type of transmission? does it short shift in C mode?

10 C six trizzle
it can skip gears but a 1-3 shift is just weird. typically your going to get like a 5-3 down shift etc....
thats strange the tune affects the shifting considering it doesnt do anything to the transmission control module, but if you tried it both ways than it must be that way.
