Transmission selector
So I was driving my C63 at lunch today. I was feeling sporty (as I am 90% of the time in this car) so I had the transmission in S mode. (I also had traction in sport handeling some of this time) I made 3 stops where I turned the car off (gas, eating, home to let my dog out). On my way back to work the transmission selector wasn't working and the car was in C mode. I restarted it at a stop sign but still the selector wasn't showing anything and the car wouldn't change out of C mode. When I got to work I shut it down took a couple deep breaths and restarted it, but without success. Basically the transmission mode selector isn't illuminated and woln't change the program out of comfort. Has anyone else ever experianced this or know how to fix it? Thanks,

I haven't experienced it but maybe try shifting with the paddles and/or shifter and see if it goes into manual mode. Then try and switch out of Manual back to C or S.

Yes, The paddle shifters work, but using them dosn't (never has) put the car in M mode. It just changes the gears in the mode I am. Using the paddles in C mode woln't upshift past what it wants to be; thus, to stop using them I up**** to 7 and it reads as if it were in regular drive.

Sorry I must be mistaken then. I only bought my 2010 C63 about a month ago and I swore when I downshifted using the paddles in C mode that my display changed to M mode. Does it stay in C mode and just show a gear change such as D1/D2/D3?

I think the 2010s are just like the 2009s. If using the paddles in S mode is equivalent to S+ in the newer cars, then consider C mode with paddles like C+. You can use the paddles, but the display remains "C".

I let it sit a few hours and it worked fine when I started it after work. Selector illuminated and there was no problem selecting transmission program. I drove home in sport and made it before the rain.

I'd check to see if the service department could find a stored code or event. I've had some bizarre glitches come up and my SA thinks it could be a short somewhere. He wouldn't worry about it unless you could either replicate the issue or it occurred more frequently. It's annoying and I may chew at the back of your brain, but if they can't reproduce it, there isn't much to be done. Otherwise, you'll spend a lot of time and $ hunting it down.

I doubt I overheated any oil. Certainly motor oil and water temps were normal. I drive with the AMG menu showing temps at all times and don't push it till they are optimal. Have never seen them in the red. It's also still in break in period and my baby so I keep it under 4500 and 80% load, and that is still very fast. Maybe I'll ask my service advisor to take a look at it.

I'm very impressed. Here's a brand new member on his very first post. He's got a problem, and he's searched threads all the way back to 2013 to try to find a solution. Can anybody give this guy a hand?

Same thing happened to me a few years ago. Had to replace the switch, I think I may have posted some pics. It was cheap, I forget how much. The thing is poorly made. There’s a computer ribbon type connector inside that either becomes brittle over time at the ends, or maybe it got pinched when someone had the console out. They easily separate from the selector. Easy fix.
