According to Car & Driver an inside source at Jaguar told them a manual is coming shortly after the Coupe hits the market.

Why would you even bother with a 6SP Manual. There is absolutely no benefit in any situation...


It's kinda like wanting a carb or drum brakes

Is anyone familiar with the 8spd transmission that comes with this car? How does it compare to the MCT or DCT? How far does it respond in manual mode?

When I drove it in dynamic mode, the shifts were not as instantaneous at the DCT in my m3. However, they were a bit faster than the ones from the 2012 c63 coupe that I test drove. I would place it in between the two gear boxes.
If you are happy with MB gear boxes you should be very satisfied with the gear box in the f-type.

Car & Driver uses a simulated rollout, while Jaguar does not. Ever wonder why Mercedes' factory numbers are higher than any of the pubs? Mercedes uses a true zero to sixty. With a simulated rollout, you're looking at something closer to "3 MPH to sixty". We use simulated rollouts because traction is much less of an issue and we can produce repeatable results.

Manual transmissions are more fun. Why buy a sports car if you don't want to be fully engaged in driving it? My VW Golf R 6spd is more fun around town than my black series ever was.

I hear ya....but to me, rowing the gears, isn't engaging. I've driven some awesome dual clutch cars and they've allowed me to concentrate on improving my driving, instead of ensuring that I didn't miss a gear or matched the revs just right. To me, squeezing everything out of the car is engaging.....the quality of a manual shift is my strength or flaw...not the cars fault...


Plus if I'm paying over $100k for the latest technology, I don't want one of my driving symptoms to be clutch foot

The transmission, I maybe wrong, but is the same 8 speed ZF transmission used in Audi's. When I drove the F type S for 600 mi, it was very comfortable.
I also drove it way faster than I want to admit.

Jaguar has really pulled their socks up to come up with this F-Type V8S and coming up Coupe version. Having a manual transmission these days on an 7 or 8 speed trans? Doesn't make sense.. anyways, maybe its just preference. Bottom line for me - I just love this car!

Drove one of me mate's Convertible F-Type S tonight and man that's a sweet ride. The amount of thought and engineering done on the car is awesome! I love it! Dynamic mode was utterly amazing for pushing the car on the streets! The exhaust notes is just nuts! Love it when the valves open up and it gargles when u downshift! Its a supercharged V8 that you may want to consider! Images taken from my iPhone. Last interior shot was awful.. Sorry! :p have a good weekend!

I'll help you. Keep in mind how crappy jag's used to be. They have come a long long long long way. I have to say its sad when ford buys a luxury car company and it actually improves the product. Next ford gives it the axe and sells off to TATA. The fine indian auto maker that is known to build the cheapest vehicle ever - new for 2300$$. like these fine piece of machinery?
