Advice: Evosport 4-2-1 long tube headers

Hello fellow c63 enthusiasts, I've been an active member of this awesome forum since I picked up my black '10 c63amg sedan last year. I read the forum almost daily but don't post often.

So far I have done a few things to my car, blacked out most of the chrome trim, picked up some 19" multi spoke flat black amg wheels, air filters, added carbon fiber mirror covers, rear trunk lip, and diffuser. I've also installed KW clubsport suspension which I love, lowered my car a bit, did a MHP ecu tune and installed Evosport 4-2-1 headers, new front pipe and x-pipe.

During the holidays I was traveling a lot and didnt get to drive my car until I returned. I had all the work done while I was away. When I got my car back the power increase was amazing however it was much too loud for my own personal taste. Actually I really love the stock sound, deep and sexy. The new sound is awesome too but it's much higher toned (more like a race car) some people might love it more but I miss the stock sound. I hoped it would be deep sounding still plus the power increase. The loudness isn't so much of a problem but the tone isn't right for me. Ideally I would love the stock tone but a little louder.

Anyway, I'm thinking now to uninstall the headers and front pipe and x-pipe and reinstall the original parts. My car is now back at the shop getting the calipers painted and a few other small customizations. So now would be a good time to do the work if I choose to. I hate to sacrifice the power but the sound is more important to me. I don't track my car often, mostly my daily driver.

So the advice I'm seeking would be, is there anyway to achieve the sound I desire without having to uninstall the headers? I've been told changing the muffler could help a little but I don't want to spend more money experimenting. I really really loved the stock sound. Should I leave the x-pipe and reinstall the original manifolds?

Any advice would help. Sorry for the long post and thanks for reading.

Thanks for the reply! So you think if I change the stock mufflers it will deepen the tone? The car sounds like a race car now, a much higher tone then stock. Id love to keep the headers if changing the mufflers will deepen my cars growl haha.

After reading more and more threads and posts, I'm thinking to install my stock manifolds again instead of trying to change mufflers and silencing options since it might just be costing more money but not getting the deep quieter amg sound that I love. I'll take a day or two to decide but if I decide to sell them I will let you know.

My neighbors already hate me hahah!

.
Try to source a set Kleemann K2 manifolds w/200 cell cats (they no longer sell). I think MKB makes a shorty header as well (IIRC, this was Dad'sC63 first setup). Both will not give you the power of the LTs, but will be more than stock and still have the sound you crave. I have the K2 with a MBH X-pipe. The X toned down the sound. I think the best combo will be the K2 with mikegpro's straight power pipe to replace the secondary cats.

What did you end up doing? Removing the LTH or something to tone them down? I am in the market for some headers, but also looking in to toning them down to a tolerable level.

Long tubes and straight pipes. The x pipe is what changed your sound. Mine sounds like a stock amg on hardcore steroids. Lth and straight to the mufflers. Maybe put back your resonator and mid pipes/secondaries straight. Shouldnt cost more than 150...

Really not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, its basically stock unless youre on the throttle or start the car/cold start. I guess age difference sets the tolerability but these cars really do need long tube headers. Best mod you can do after a tune. Keep your resonators on and see how that is!

I took out the x-pipe and replaced the stock central muffler (resonator?) and also added some custom muffler silencers. Most likely I will still have to play a little with the sound until I get it perfect but after adding the longtube headers I had to fix the sound. So far costing very little.

Not sure what you're talking about, it's not at all 'basically stock sounding' after adding long tubes, the tone is much higher, sounds like a trumpet when driving normally. And if you are wot or a cold start it's gonna be the loudest car most people have ever heard haha.

I agree these cars do need longtubes and keep the resonator. Also I've learned there are quite a few ways to quiet them down without restricting the flow.

Haha well im only 20, so i guess that kind of sound really appeals to me. i just don't want you sacrificing the enjoyment of longtubes because of the sound. I feel like its just very civil when you drive in comfort, never the one outside of the car, so your right maybe it doesn't sound the same. But start ups are really embarrassing, i usually have to wait for it to be clear of people. I also second whoever talked about Mike, he seems to be the entrepreneur here in exhaust sounds and modifying as he's tried so many different set-ups.

The perfect solution

I just got my car back yesterday and after the custom silencers and re-installing my center muffler and taking out my x-pipe, I couldn't be happier!!

I haven't really lost any airflow, the car is insanely fast and the sound...

I'm in heaven!! The trumpet sounding nascar car is no more!! Now my car sounds like the original car but a little louder. It's deep amg tone is one of my favorite things about the 63. My cold starts don't wake up my neighbors from 10 blocks away anymore!! On WOT the car screams and you can sure tell its a beast with headers but on regular driving it sounds a little louder then stock. I'm absolutely amazed with the work the custom shop has done for me.

The silencers have a balancer pipe which also help with the sound. Here are a couple pics, sound clip coming soon.

Did they custom build the balancer on the pipe for you or is that something that can be purchased? Very similar to an h pipe design but placement is unique. Sound clip please...thanks and looks good.

Reviving This thread, it ended with no sound clip and no information about the silencers. Where do you get these?
all I can find online are inserts that will block flow.

I think they're just straight through silencers that you can get anywhere (i want to say 4 inch OD but stand to be corrected) and it has a custom bit of pipe welded in to act as a H. Good idea. I think I'll emulate this for my car. Thanks for posting the solution C63amg Tokyo
