Buying a used c63 any advice?
Im currently looking at buying a used c63 from MY 08-11 due to their awesome value. Ive been looking at the ones with AMG development but the salesman told me they dont have LSD and the calipers isn't red painted. Im kinda lost on this.
- What are the differences between MY 08 09 10 and 11?
- Is there anything I should be watch out for? Such engine knock, unresponsive transmission etc?
If you use your c63 as a daily what are your mileages?

Mileage for me 15 mpg city and highway mixed driving. Make sure car is under warranty. Dont buy a warranty from a used car dealership they will rape you. You can shop around for MB warranty assuming your car is still under factory warranty.
Also, development package should have carbon fiber spoiler and steering wheel in not leather.
Goodluck on your search! I just bought mine three weeks ago and loving it!

On MY 09-11 we are talking about performance package not development package. Correct me if I'm wrong.
P30 up to early 10, P31 afterwards. Development package came with the facelift model.
P30 do not have red calipers, some with some without LSD. P31 came with red calipers + LSD.
Both packages have alcantara steering wheel, lower suspension, Cf spoiler, 2pc rotors and tuned.
I'm no expert but that is what I've seen so far. Others can chime in.

C63 ///AMG P30
P30 came standard with LSD , alcantara sides steering wheel, stiffer suspension and 2 piece rotors.
P31 came standard with 30 additional hp, 2 piece rotors with red calipers, alcantara sides steering wheels, stiffer suspension, CF spoiler on boot lid. LSD is optional
P31 I believe started in MY2010 which is still pre-facelift.
2012 started facelift models including Edition 1 and Edition 507

Way wrong, but it was a good shot.
cliffs
p30 same engine, better brakes (two piece front rotor), LSD
p31 better engine (+30 hp), "1.5" piece rotors with red calipers, no LSD
P30 cars have the alcantara steering wheel, LSD, 2 piece rotors on the front ($700+ a rotor), silver calipers, a much stiffer suspension, and NO engine tuning (455 hp, but top speed 174mph). Some 2009 P30s may be missing pieces due to part shortages at the time.
P31 package:
Adds 30hp for a total of 481hp
Lightweight AMG Forged Pistons
Lightweight Connecting Rods
Revised Crankshaft
New Engine Management
AMG Compound Braking System
Red Painted Brake Calipers
Carbon Fiber Trunk Spoiler
Exclusive Engine Intake Runners in Titanium Grey
Top Speed at 174 mph
AMG Leather/Alcantara Performance Steering Wheel
Note that the p31 does NOT come with the LSD, unless the owner added it as a separate option ($2K). It also does not have the stiffer suspension. The two piece rotors are also different than the p30 ones (more like 1.5 piece).
ALL 2010 and earlier C63s (and early 2011s) have potential issues with the headbolts failing ($5K repair). Check out the sticky for more information.

if the intake manifold on top if dark grey its a P31, if it's light grey, it's P30 (LSD etc) ..personally the LSD is worth it, I spin tire easily with 285s with LSD..I can only imagine it without..i don't even get why mercedes didn't put LSD in every C63, 450HP going to 1 tire? LOL

Lol! Thanks for correcting
I think if the intake manifold is dark grey then it is a performance package. If it is light grey then no performance package. Mine is light grey and my car has no PP.

P30 same motor with light gray intake manifold. P30 comes with all the listed components above unique P30 to PP
P31 comes upgraded motor internals and tune which accentuates the darker gray intake manifold plus the listed components above unique to P31 PP

The P30 ended with Dec 2009 build dates in the 2010 MY. It was superseded by the P31 PP which was also referred to as the Development Package by AMG at that time.

Where are you buying it from? MB dealer?
You have nothing on the carfax?
If you don't know nothing about mechanic have a independent pro inspect the car for you

Im buying it from a used car dealership not from MB. They probably won it in an auction. Carfax only has a $500 insurance claim.

That $500 almost sounds like an insurance deductible? Would car fax even report such a low dollar claim?
Here's an under-hood pic, has P30 and P31 package..

Car is currently at 64,000 km
2013 April 61,000 km minor service oil change
2012 major service replace break fluid, injector flush, transmission service
2009 minor service oil change
There was no service history from 2010 and 2011. They probably done it at some indy shop. Should I be worried about this?

Car has low mileage. Take it for a test drive and check the brakes, check for leaks, feel the engine sound, gear shifts etc...
If you fall for it make sure you have an extended warranty to be on the safe side.

Depends if it was done properly. Unfortunately you don't have any receipt to know the indy shop location and give them a call. So it will be hard to know. But so far MB has performed the service following 2010/2011.

Thanks for the advice. Ill be taking the car to my dealership to do a mechanical inspection as well. At this milage do I need to check for engine compression?
