It's called a **** exchange rate and a rapacious government who charges 10% GST and a whopping great luxury car tax.

I've seen another white one for around $280k second hand with 20,000+km. What a rip off esp. for the amount of kms racked up.

Didn't these have comfort access...notice no full electric seats?

Waiting with cash in hand for these to come under $200k then I'll pounce if nothing else takes my fancy on the market.

still even @ $50 an hour in AUS thats just under 100k a year and after taxes...so you're telling me $150-$200 an hour is normal in AUS? Either way 280k for a C-class is ridiculous lol

The 'we earn twice as much as Yanks' line just doesn't hold water in my opinion, especially to justify the prices of luxury items in Australia.

Let's put it this way...individuals that can afford such things in Australia would probably be earning equal or more in the states after tax. I know as a health professional with a business, both my salaried and business owner colleagues in the States either earn about the same or more at the equivalent level.

I think they must laugh at how much us Aussies have to pay for our nice cars and nice real estate...and I don't blame them!!

It's alot more than the Government, Mercedes and all the car manufacturers play their part as well.

Lets say the C63BS was $140k in America brand new, current exchange rate + GST + 33% LCT on over ~$60k = ~$210k, a big difference between that and the $280k it was going for brand new.

Mercedes recently dropped $50k from the CLS500 price in Australia and withdrew the CLS350 from the lineup, trying to encourage the sale of the V8s.

Regardless of our ridiculous car prices, and property prices, I still wouldn't live anywhere else in the world.

Living in a mining town is even worse...everything has the 'regional' tax and then the 'mining' tax lumped on top.

For example I called the local Autobarn to get a price on some D1S HID bulbs and then I called a couple of city establishments only to find the local one wanted 25% more for the same item!

At least in Oz we have a less polluted environment short of Alaska to live in.

Sometimes our governments make me sad. As for instance with the car tax. On the other hand, car tax is what takes of care of us when we fall sick with cancer etc. My state of the art brain surgery + 4 days in hospital cost me 150 €. In the states you get cars cheap, but when this kind of **** hits you, it hits hard. There has to be some kind of balance. Our country basically pays unemployed enough to live ok the rest of their lives. In my opinion a more fair way of making people pay for their driving is to raise the tax on gasoline (which costs about 10 bucks a gallon here for premium 100 octane (whatever that is over there).
This is why there is only one C 63 black series in Finland. Kudos to the guy here who paid 750000 € for an Aventador.
