Are Wheel & Tire Protection Warranties Worth It ?
#27
I just purchased in January of this year a 2012 C300 4matic CPO( my first MB) and with it I also purchased the tire and wheel insurance. I'm emailing you because the price is $2195 for 5 years of Preferred Tire Care, my questions for you are:
I'm I paying too much?
Can I cancel and try to purchase the tire and wheel insurance at a better price? and if so, how can I do that?
Also, is it buying the maintenance package when I first purchased the car worth it or not? I paid $1500 for the next 3 years.
I'm totally new to the whole MB world and would really appreciate some help. Thank you in advance

I live in a construction zone and have picked up a fair share of nails in the tire, so yes, for me when I look at my surroundings it is well worth it.

I have the 19inch OEM wheels, and noticed a bit of vibration recently. Took the car to MB to get wheel balanced and discovered the the front right rim is bent.
Glad that I had the warranty, as they are replacing it now.
I am not sure how it got bent as I am always avoiding potholes. Maybe the wife did, but either way I had the warranty. This one replacement is covering the cost of the warranty. It cost me $ 1500 when I bought the car last year in Ontario - Canada.

So i have this exact warranty on my car as well except at time of purchase i paid $2000 for tire, rim and dent warranty. What they say is if your tire gets damaged or flat, as long as the wear is above the wear marker (they do the penny test to make sure its not like bald) they will replace the tire free of charge. Same thing with OEM rims (in my case, the only rims they cover through this is the stock 18's and stock 19's).
Honestly, as far as if this warranty is worth it or not, it depends on where you live i would think. I live in the bay area where freeways are in pretty bad condition, a lot of construction going on everywhere, a lot of traffic, careless drivers etc. So in the 4 years i have owned the car, the following has happened to me
1. Got a flat tire on the 3rd day of owning the car, was replaced for free
2. Got a flat tire about a year after that, was replaced for free
3. Got a flat tire about a year ago from today, was replaced for free
4. Had about 6 different dents in the car (small ones that appeared to be caused by door dings, shopping carts, rocks etc), entire car was inspected and all dents/paint was fixed for free
5. Curbed on rim and that was replaced for free
I still have 1 more year left on the warranty but in my case, it was totally worth it, just those 3 tire changes alone from MB covered the initial cost. In my case, they actually went out, purchased the same tire/size i had on my car and then came to where i was with the damaged tire to replace it. I hope that helps you in making your decision

No more MB:(
I have 40K miles on a 2015 SL and have had about 10 tires (maybe more?) and two rims replaced. Lots of potholes and road hazards. Zero out of pocket. Yes it's worth it if you drive on poor road conditions.
