Agreed - not sure sleeper is the right word. More like resto-mod. These guys are top notched craftsmen. I had them do some work on my 911 which was excellent.
I have seen that V10 E30 close up, the engineering and safety that went into that thing is amazing - it is a daily driver and gets used, not some show car to be trailered around.
Some people like the older body styles better...again not sure it is meant to be a sleeper at all, just someone that wants significant performance and modern day suspension/braking/transmission and engine management in a retro package.
I dig it.

But that's a completely different story that somebody wanting to take a regular car and Debadge it to pretend it's not a fast car and then catch people off guard street racing aka "sleeper"
Resto mods I like, sleepers I don't

I couldn't have said it better myself, but in the end it's still a nice project and it takes some skills to complete the task at hand. Hopefully they have more pictures as the project progresses. Are they just fitting the engine in, or are they also incorporating the trani as well? Any ideas?

As for the street racing part, I would suggest you immediately stop and grow up. Go to a drag strip or a track and have all the fun you want.

I think it's great. People have been putting modern powerplants in old cars for quite some time now... why not advance the whole car and still keep the styling of an particular era?

Thanks - deets are 84 Carrera, 39k original miles, stripped down for street/DE duty. Weighs about 2400/wet with me in it. Its loud, fast and fun. Lots of mods, suspension, brakes etc...about 225 HP.

You're still not getting it. Debadging a car or making it a sleeper is NOT about sneaking one past anyone or catching them off guard. You're not going to be racing anyone, most certainly not on the street. It's not about a race, contest or comparison. If you debadge it, it's because you don't want people like you to pull up beside you and try to get into a contest with you in the first place. If I have a sleeper I want you and those like you to go past me without even noticing that I have a powerful car, not to try to race me. You are the very embodiment of why sleepers exist in the first place. I don't want to race anybody, and I don't want you to even wonder what I may or may not have under the hood. I want you to ignore me completely. Capisce?

get a hybrid, save gas money, save insurance cost and not having to worry about anyone wanting to race you... win win for you since you dont want to go fast on the street bro
but in the real world... when most people refer to sleepers they are referring to "wolf in sheeps clothing" the car that unsuspectingly blows one away as one try to race it/pass it, thinking its a lesser car...
spin it how you want... but most people do the "sleeper" thing to surprise people when they blow by them.... maybe you are the exception to the rule, maybe its different in canada EH?

A sleeper (US English) or Q-car (British English) is a car that has high performance and an unassuming exterior.
Some cars are equipped this way [at the factory] to suit the tastes of those who want performance without attracting attention of the police, car thieves, or drag racers.
For the seventeenth time, it's not about saving gas or going slowly - it's about enjoying the car for what it is without being bothered by pests like you. In a safe environment like a race track, I go as fast as I can. On the street, I usually try to keep it at the speed of traffic - but one thing I certainly don't do is behave like a hooligan and try to race people on public roads.
I don't know if you're just young and stupid or feel the need to show how powerful you are with your car because you're compensating for something else, but as I said before you ought to lay off the whole street racing thing.
Now, can we please stop with this? It's cool that you don't like it. Dissing it and putting it down is not. We have both stated our respective opinions, so let's just agree to disagree. Please?

I have no issue with the fact that you don't like sleepers - that is a matter of taster and perfectly fine. As for what they are and why most people that like sleepers get them, here is the definition from Wikipedia:

did you even read the title to this thread???? "The ultimate sleeper? Its gonna wake someone up! " now that eludes to the fact that its gonna catch some other fast car by surprise.... exactly what i have been saying i dont like (not the work on the car itself)
go to youtube and type in Sleeper car and see how many races you get.
and trust me, i dont got to compensate for anything but the fact that you keep bringing it up leads me to believe you want to see my junk... quit beating around the bush bro and just say you want to see my junk lol or quit talking about it as it doesnt relate to sleeper cars
now back to sleepers ....here's some sleepers for you doing what they do best... surprise other cars in races

And while I'm puzzled at the use of budget... I do like the concept. For me, I think a 1975 280c would be a cooler way to package it.
I guess if you can buy anything, and probably already have until you're bored with buying things... things like this are cool because they are way more charismatic and intriguing than more typical projects.

The more he goes on, the more he makes it crystal clear that the "compensating" explanation is the correct one.

Wow, ..... Back to Sleepers
I like my son's recent project with an engine transplant, which I call a sleeper, because the B7 didn't come with big hp, and the way the exhaust is done you wouldn't think the car is anything out of the ordinary. (quieter than my wife's car)
An Audi B7, with a 2.7, tt motor with rs6 turbo's. He took the 2.0 badge off and left it with nothing, I said to him I would have left them on. He's having fun.

We were talking about sleepers and debadging. The fact that you took this to mean that people who like sleepers and/or debadge their cars want to unfairly street-race with you IS NOT what either of those things are about. When I pointed that out, instead of offering an intelligent counter-argument you resorted to personal attacks and talking about your junk. Yes, we are all closet homosexuals that are secretly in love with you. There, I said it. Will you please shut up now?
