I wouldn't recommend running K&Ns without being oiled as they will let too much fine dust through. Get some AFE or Weistec dry filters if you don't want to run oiled filters.

The charcoals are only fitted in the US i believe, in Europe they are not fitted just the same as ROW boxes are standard in Europe.....don't know why.
I have K&N's fitted and never had any CEL issues.

This is very odd. I know guys with the C63,E63 both m156 charcoals removed they have no issues. Mine from day one when the car was stock I remove them and CEL. Even after tune. Very odd..

Has this ever been rectified? I ordered RoW boxes with AFE filters this week and would hate to throw a code. Is the Eurocharged V5 tune good at helping not throw a CEL

This problem always seems to be worse for the 2009 MY. Not sure why but maybe the MAFs are more sensitively tuned for that year. You should be fine. Take your time with the install and make sure the boxes are properly inserted into the manifold y-connector and the clamps are snugged up. I take the air boxes off the engine when I work on my filters. Get the filters installed and the tops screwed down then fit the whole box back onto the y-pipe and push the mounting rubbers back into the spring mounts on the engine. Always seemed to work better this way for me.
