Follow @Nanook advice on all his posts. He so far has been the most accurate in his diagnosis and his suggestions. Escort 9500ci likely is your best bet. V1's are good but Escort has their other useful apps to go with theirs. You can use the MAX, 9500ix, 8500x50 or Redline and hardwire it in. The RD can be up by your mirror and all wires hidden. But the Info readout by that company is pretty neat for completely hidden 9500ci.
PLEASE, Please turn your detector OFF if you are pulled over. Nothing worse than asking for a license and registration while the RD is going crazy
1. 95% of all people who have RD's do NOT know how to use them. Thus comments such as ---- I have a detector, they don't work, they are junk, I got two speeding tickets using a brand new one. I got one of the best ones too. (likely they got a Whistler for a 100 at best buy. Anyone who does know how, knows that the detector is only 50% of the game. Keeping that watchful eye for the patrol car coming at you on the opposite side of the road mixed in with traffic, or the one right around the bend behind the bush and all you see is one or so cars tapping their brake ONCE.
2. When you see Ka pop up, that IS a police radar , best to slow down, and keep that speed for a bit and see if you can tell where he is. He might be a mile behind, or a mile ahead and using instant on.
3. Yes K band is still used, mostly by small town dept or motorcycle units. However stores do use them also, so not worth turning that off. Escorts units do the 4 times and silent it from then on
4. Laser----- If you have a front plate, I got you no matter what. By the time the shifters recognize the laser I have the reading. Without the plate, you have a good chance, but mostly unless you get scatter, your gotten. Something reflective (lights, fog light, vertical grille etc...) is used to bounce the signal back.
Just an FYI, a officer does NOT have to radar you to write a citation. The Officer in Radar school is trained extensively on estimating your speed without using the radar. Pretty rigorous.. The Radar unit is only a backup. Most officers rely on the radar for all of it, but usually speed is estimated then hit with radar after to verify.
Radars in vehicles can differentiate lanes, even with oncoming traffic, and radar several vehicles at one time and point out which one was speeding.
Hope this helps satisfy what you guys are wondering. Typically a RD user is a more responsible driver as tests have shown. Reason why?--- They typically pay attention much more to whats around them, and thus are able to avoid accidents and other situations better than regular drivers.

Judging by your expertise (and the username ), I'm guessing you are in law enforcement?

So seems like the V1 or the 9500ix is the recommended RD's to go with then? If both of them are as good as each other, are the prices fairly on par as well? If that's the RD to go with, are there separate devices that are known as Laser Jammers? I was under the impression it's just the one device that is a RD and a LJ at the same time?
For the people wondering, they are not illegal where I am which is why I am looking into them. Also, someone was telling me that the install could be done in a way that some of the sensors are installed in the grille portion of the vehicle where nothing is noticeable etc. I was also told that they work quite well with the system in our cars (pre facelift) and you can actually have an option in the command system for it.
I have no idea how they work or anything like that cause I have never used one. But I am really interested in doing it right. I don't intend to speed but it would be nice to have some mental satisfaction that if I am going a little over the limit, it'll be okay. Like i said, I am complete newbie when it comes to this stuff so I would really appreciate if someone completely dumbs it down for me. For example, advice as to which RD I should buy, which LJ I should buy, how should I be looking to installing them/getting them installed etc.
@Nanook, I noticed that you're from Alberta as well. Perhaps you can direct me to some local installers/retailers in Calgary or Edmonton that can help me out with the whole thing. I would really appreciate it.
Thanks everyone for your input it is helping greatly.

Again, I am sorry but some of the lingo doesn't make much sense to me. So I figure that Escort 9500ci is a RD? What does mid city module into dash mean? And for LJ you are suggesting Blinder hp-905? Which one is LI?
Do you have any pictures/videos of your set up? I am mainly curious about how they are installed in these cars. Also, where did you get yours purchased and installed from?
Thanks a lot!

Depending on your budget I suggest you read my post again with my recommendations regarding the Escort 9500ci built in, Mid City module into dash and laser jammer..either LI or Blinder hp-905.not the Bel combo system detector/jammer as the jammer is weak. All pieces are very nearly completely concealed and very stealthy. Performance is as good as it gets...top shelf technology...you do not want a V1...I have 2 and 2 9500ix so I know .Redline has no gps..Max is overrated ..all others are lesser in all respects...my .02 cents
Nanook, Whats your opinion to advise on two shifters for the front and two in the rear or just up front. I have never seen a laser used for the back of the car. In all cases that I have seen its the front. I think just front is needed.

BL= is Blinder and the model is hp-905
9500ci is a concealed RD that wires are run and the module is attached to your front end somewhere, and there is a rear module to attach back there. The control for it can be mounted somewhere inside on the dash, ashtray etch.... The Mid City Module is a several hundred dollar module that will send all the radar information to the information screen where the digital speedometer is located. So right in front of you. Cool piece and would make a diff viewing for the better.
You are talking 2k plus for all this. So be prepared, but it will be the best. Pay to play. Installs, you can google 9500ci install pictures and come up with hundreds. Nanook posted pics of his I think. Just make sure you get a reputable shop to install. Likely a Car stereo shop.
Escort 9500ci is the model, look at their website

Yes it can be confusing...
First look at my first post where I inserted links to my system..install..I did them myself in my ML
Firstly there are 2 style of detectors...built into your vehicle so stealthy but non-removable...so you cannot easily transfer yo another vehicle ...these are the Bel or Escort...they all connect to a CPU the has control settings send alerts and the Escort sling with a module from amid city purchased seperately allows notification of radar on your dash thought the canbus of the car...settings and alerts right on you dash info screen...dic
The other two types V1 and 9500ix are windshield mount detectors exposed to view...stand alone...you can hardwire to avoid the lighter plug cord as I did
The jammers are separate again..and come as 1,2,4 head combos.I suggest 4 heads...2front and 2 rear...rear are difficult to install but front are most important of course....these system names are Laser Intercrptor or Blinder hp-905... I have both and got the HP in my ml as they now have smaller heads and it was cheaper....I have the LI in my ZR1 corvette with the V1 detector because I use a system to tie the V1 into my heads up display called dashtronix
I'll leave you with this as it's late here and if you need more info provide such tomorrow Do some reading and you'll see more clearly

The Redline is a fantastic RD...I probably have over 45k highway miles on it and...NO tickets! I like it better than the V1 for my own reasons but you couldn't go wrong with either one. I don't bother using my 9500ix any more...the performance difference between it and the Redline is skewed in the Redline's favor by a factor of 3-4X. FWIW in the desert with long, wide open sight lines I have seen over 10 miles of confirmed range on Ka a number of times with the Redine. Unreal. The Escort Max should be a contender but isn't. Perhaps continuing firmware developments will vault it into the upper echelon of RD's but I doubt in raw performance it will ever catch the Redline or V1. The concept however is definitely the wave of the future even if the current Max platform is not.

K-band is widely used by police...and could be the same general frequency used by door devices which is why one cannot tune it out...and why the 9500ix ( and other GPS enabled units) can filter out..with 4 encounters at the same location (this is where GPS comes to play knowing where you are)it then locks out future alerts at that location..(or you can immediately lock out a location manually)..

I run the V1 and the Laser Interceptor. The President of LI, Cliff Crane, is a big C63 enthusiast. As a matter of fact, he will send you pictures of his C63 and the installation process if you ask.

Yup no doubt the redline is a good piece ...for highway more than city because of long range but I'd still go 9500ix for city due to its gps, false lockout and red light capabilities. When I do hit the highway I grab my V1. I use an invisicord for power hardwire and both detectors use the same end plug so swap is simple

I live in VA. I run a V1 every day. Think about it: your V1 goes off and you see an Impala or a Crown Vic. You know the radar source. Conversely, the cop's Spectre IV or similar radar detector detector goes off. Who on the highway has the RD? In a big group you are fine. Alone, be a little more careful. I was stupid one night. As the only car on the road, I see a car about a half mile behind me. Eventually I get a rear radar signal and didn't look at the arrows and tapped the brakes. Blue lights came on...had I just lifted off the gas or something he wouldn't have come after me. He walked up to the window and asked to see my RD. He took down the serial, gave me a ticket and had me on my way. It's basically the same as a burned out tail light. No points. No (permanent) confiscation. They usually don't take it. What's more expensive? A reckless ticket (easy to get in VA) or $160 RD ticket. They can pry my V1 from my cold dead hands. Additionally, Spectre IV and IV+ are not highly proliferated threats.

All great points and I have a V1 sitting in my desk (needs to be updated with software though) and have thought the same logic you point out. What part of VA are you in - I am primarily Loudoun county with trips in to McLean for work. I am not sure if the counties run Spectre or just the State Police? Also visually, where do you have it mounted? I just worry about being forgetful and pull up in traffic next to a cop (or behind me) and get nailed for visual...
I spend a lot of time on the toll road and the airport road...lots of cops, Airport Authority, County, State etc.

i have two passport 9500xi's, but to be honest, most of the warnings are "too late" to really do much. sometimes, it even feels like i'm seeing the police/hwy patrol visually the same the as detector going off.
am i doing something wrong, or is that normal?

Mine react spontaneously. Also remember following a hit/stop/hit they can take over 10 secs to reset

I've always run a hardwire up the passenger-side A pillar. Hang a Redline off the visor up in that right corner. Depending on your car he/she probably will not be able to see it.

I've always had success in VA with my Passport 8500 without detection including Loudon Co. My buddy from PA was popped twice with a V1 for having a detector. I just moved up to the 9500ci and it's been great so far.
