CF Trims Wrapped DIY- PICS
Okay guys,
Thought i would share.
edit- i feel like a bit of a cheap ***, as there is a thread, only a couple of lines down, that features the proper CF trim..... :'(
Had some 3M 1080 Designer Wrap left over from a friends place.
So, thought, what the hell, give it a try.
Below are the results, which i must say i am quite happy with.
Was very easy to apply.
I didnt take the door trims off. The most tedious part was cutting around the seat adjustment & Memory buttons.
Other than that, everything else was straight forward.
For the centre console, i removed those bits, and did them on the desk. Was much easier.
Removing them was very easy (no screws, everything just clicks).
Ultimately i will get the proper CF Trim, but for now, as a DIY, i think its acceptable.
What do you guys think?
FYI- The part number from 3M is DWCF12A - Carbon Fibre Black Accessory Pack.

Looks great man don't even sweat it! Nice job. How did you end up installing it without removing the side trim pieces? Must have been difficult? It looks pretty good and you can't tell, as in the edges all seem symmetrical.
The console pieces? What's the best way to remove them?

I looked at YouTube vids of taking the door trims off, and it was kinda a big job. So i decided to leave them on. Especially with my roller blinds on the rear doors, i didnt want to mess with it.
I am a pretty "handy" person. But this is the first time i have CF Wrapped anything.
As for getting it lining up on the door trims, i just used the pre-existing straight edge of the CF Wrap, as i know that would be produced 100% straight.
I laid it directly up to the chrome line at the top of the wood trim, and kinda "tucked" it under it slightly (by like 1/2 a mm) to give it that flush look.
I tried my best to carry on the pattern in a symmetrical order, so it looks as best as it can.
As for removing the console pieces, i have a set of plastic trim removers, and it all snaps on & off.
I started with removing the gear knob, and boot.
Then the shifter surround (the brushed silver part) I didint bother unplugging any wires (no need too)
Then, the wood part around the shifter. Again, just gently pull up, evenly as possible. It feel like you will break something, but be gentle, it will be fine.
Next i did the ashtray cover. This just Slides on. I found, the best way to do this, was open the ashtray about halfway, and then, use pressure to slide the top wood part, toward the rear of the car, while simultaneously pushing the sliding part underneath toward to the front of the car. It just clicks out/in.
Once the ashtray is out, there is enough room to get the A/C surround off. Again, just gently pull it towards you, while trying to make it come off evenly, so as it wont get caught on the temperature control knobs.
Takes about 5 mins to do the lot. Just do it gently.
I only used the trim pulling tools, to start on the gear knob boot. After that, its all by hand.
Installation is the reverse. Start with AC surround, then ashtray, then lastly gear knob surround.

I started with the rear doors, so if i stuffed it up, or it looked a little tatty, i wouldnt see it all the time.
Ofcourse, if it was really bad, i would just just ripped it off, and started again.

I would rather have this anyway. Plus CF is just a cosmetic mod. This allows you to have best of both, just remove it when you want a change. I personally love the dark walnut that I have...nice job.
