I called my tech yesterday afternoon and he said it shouldn't be an issue since we already "took care" of it. But he offered to check the next time I was in since it'll be a warranty item.

are you guys getting the letter because you're the original owner? or any owners that have been serviced at the dealer? I'm not the original owner.

You need to make sure the change of ownership has been registered with MB. Your dealer may be able to tell you. There is a form you can send in in the Service and Warranty Information booklet you should have received with your car.

I seen a pallet of those come in a few days ago, if you have not got a letter and think you may have a recall you can call the dealer to run the vin.

Looked like the normal boxes of bulb carriers, but I haven't actually looked at them yet though. They are definitely not the entire assembly as they are not the reason for the fault. Most likely they will continue the repair like we have been. Replace the bulb carriers bulbs burnt pins/socket. If I remember tomorrow I will take a look at the recall info and see what they are doing.

Bumping this thread to remind Pre-FL owners about replacing tail light bulb connectors.
I took my car in to get A1 Service and they replaced the bulb connectors(recall) at the same time.

My local dealership told me that I should be getting another letter in August advising to take the car in and they will schedule it then. They said the first letter states that a second one will follow and they can't do the recall until then. This is in Edmonton.

I got the letter..... basically that this recall is happening and that a second letter will come once the parts are actually in....
I was at the MB Aftersales conference in Toronto and I was able to ask the question to the right people....
It is a major world wide recall for all C classes since 2008 as the connectors may burn out causing potential failure. Keep in mind, the odds of both tail lights failing at the same time isn't likely and the third middle brake light is not affected.
It has happened often enough that the recall had to be issued as it was a recurring problem being reported at various dealers around the world.
Also, keep in mind that Mercedes (like other manufacturers) uses a supplier for the tail lights... They now need to correct the issue, produce & supply the tail lights for this huge demand.
I didn't think to ask if it was pre-facelift only or not.
Illmike's picture earlier on in this thread, shows a good example of what is happening....
If you are not sure if you are registered with MB, just give them a call with your VIN and give them your info... Nice and simple.
Hope that helps!

I also had the A service this week; recall repair parts weren't in yet (Chicago area). Can you tell what they actually replaced?

Got the letter a few days ago,
I purchased my car through MB star Certified here in Toronto.
They haven't performed anything yet, they said they will let us know when they have all the parts in stock.

While losing a tail light is obviously a safety issue, and as someone else said the odds of both failing at the same time are minimal, the bigger issue is that the location of the fault is near what can potentially be a major fire hazard. The trunk material is fire retardant (not immune, means if the material catches on fire it should not feed the fire as fuel, but will still typically smolder), however, it is still teh trunk, where people keep stuff, and that stuff can be flammable..
So get them to replace it before your car ends up a giant smoldering heap of molten metal

Interestingly just recently I've had a few dash messages warning about bulb failures, but checked and they all seem good.
None of this appears to have been announced in the UK, and I am wondering if someone would be kind enough to share a copy of the letter/notification and I will approach MB UK about this issue over here.
But, priorities, off to check the car for this specific issue now!
Thanks in advance.

For those that got the recall done, how long did it take for your dealer to finish the job? I rather not leave my car there overnight

Thanks Mort. I can't see the job being big, just a straight swap of the light internals, 1 hour is probably excessive, but smallest time unit they want to allocate - think you can have a couple of cups of coffee in that time and get the job done. :-)
