K&N's or AFE
I am currently running ROW's (charcoal delete obviously) with K&N oiled filters (oil is from manufacturer as I have yet to clean and re-oil). They have been in my car for about 1000 miles with no issues.
My question is, what are the pro's to AFE vs K&N if I am not receiving any CEL's from the K&N's. Does anyone have dyno documentation that AFE or any other filter provides more hp or better flow?
I don't want to continue running the K&N's if there is a better product out there, just because I already have them and they aren't causing CEL's.
I only ask because the only reasons I am seeing for people to choose AFE are because they are dry and don't create CEL issues, if this is the only reason, I may as well stick with K&N...?
TIA guys.

Thanks for your responses guys.
Prior to installation, I let them sit on paper towels for a bit. The paper towels did show signs of soaking some oil up.
I probably only let them sit for an hour or so, maybe I should have let them sit longer... Well as I said no CEL's thus far, hopefully I don't get any. :fingers-crossed:
Hoping some may chime in with some dyno experience as well. I cant imagine big gain differences, but who knows...

From filter to filter no big difference in power gains... If any. The biggest improvement is removing the charcoal filter. Just make sure you double check everything. Make sure the air boxes are aligned and sealed properly. The connection at y-pipe are tight. You don't want any hot air creeping in. The reason most guys get a CEL is because they rush and don't put everything back together the way it was or they use a whole can of oil on one filter.

If anyone tells you that they can feel a difference from stock to K&N or from K&N to AFE, their butt dyno is being highly optimistic. I'm not saying that there isn't a hp difference, I am just saying that it isn't big enough to have a real world impact.

I went with AFE because they are oil-less. I've been running them for 1 year now. I clean them every 5000 miles approximately. I have a spare set too just in case.

I have AFE's but not sure if they are worth it. my butt dyno feels no difference but I cant deny that the engine might be breathing better but it doesnt translate to enhanced on-road performance.

On these cars, high flow filters have little to no impact on car which, has already an astounding intake, for sucking in cold air. The most important modification would be the European spec airbox which already has the charcoals deleted and bigger inlet tube. If it makes you sleep easier at night, add the high flow air filter. And, on top of this a hi flow air filter will do a better job when coupled with a high flow exhaust ie (headers/deleted cats). At the end of the day it's filter. Whether it being k&n, bmc, afe, or whatever.

AFE all the way!!!! I recently switched to AFE from K&N's, and I think I feel the difference in throttle response compared to the K&N's. Feels like the car breathes better as what others have been saying too. Also when I'm in C or S mode, for some reason I'm getting better MPG with the AFE's. I dunno. Just my take on it. Like what Petakii said, it's just a filter at the end of the day. However, it is overpriced for what it is.

Weistec here also.. and recently.
I was expecting to see stock filters but the previous owner had K&N. I put it all back together after cleaning them but didn't oil them.
I then heard that K&Ns allowed smaller particles into the engine and dry filters were a better solution. Since I already had them and didn't bother with the return, I put the Weistecs in.
I took side by side photos (too lazy tonight to post) and you can see light coming through tiny holes in the K&N filters while the Weistec's has more of a filtered light (like tissue paper) and no holes.
Curious if others have heard similar.

Every brand of filter has a different weave of material they use. In the end, they all do same thing. Oiled is more of filter that needs to be mainteded and oiled (properly) *stressed* properly. Dry is very low maintenance. Simpy open the airbox. Shake and run under lukewarm water and let dry. Paper filters will offer the best protection of keeping particles out.
