Check engine Light Help!
Hey Guys,
I have the following CEL codes
P0017
-Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor B)
P0171
-System Too Lean (Bank 1)
P0300
Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0301
Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
P0302
Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
P0303
Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
P0304
Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
Car was running really erratically last night and had no power with really rough vibration all around. Once I got home I tried to diagnose the issue and when I place my hand near the exhaust, only the driver side of the car was emitting warm exhaust while the passenger side was cold air.
Today I took out all the sparkplugs and heres a picture of them:
The left sparkplugs are cylinders 5,6,7,8 and the right side is 1,2,3,4
Does anyone have any possible ideas on how to fix this? I've heard the cam sensor sometimes do break and I don't know if it's the intake or exhaust one to replace.
Thanks,

The cam sensor or cam adjuster is fried.
The sensor would be on the cam adjuster. The adjuster unbolts from the front to remove it. There is a seal that you may need to replace.
It might be the adjuster itself that is toast and the sensor is reading right.
I would say A is intake B exhaust, Roadtalon would know for sure.

This is the problem with generic code readers, vs the real thing. Hopefully it knows what its talking about. The way mercedes works on engines.... If you are outside the car and staring at the engine from the front bumper of the car... the Left side of the engine or the passenger side of the car if you are in the u.s. You have camshafts A B C D in order left to right. A would be the 1-4 exhaust camshaft, b the 1-4 intake cam, c 5-8 intake cam, d 5-8 exhaust cam. So you should ask yourself if you are sure you are on the correct side of the engine? 1-4 is on the passenger, 5-8 driver side. Ive never seen a bad cam sensor on one of these, not to say that never happens. I've just never seen it so i wouldnt think thats the problem. The good news is most of the external parts are interchangeable side to side. The sensors you could swap side to side. same with the camshaft solenoids. if they change sides then you should be able to pinpoint the bad part. Be careful with the solenoids the connectors are all the same and could easily be swapped backwards making the car run all kinds of crappy. always a possibility of a sticking adjuster internally.
heres a visual... camshaft B is going to right where the cap/lid of the power steering reservoir is
I saw this post last night and was going to put some rude comment up about people being way in over their head, but i decided to just sit back and see what everyone else was going to reply with. Since you pm'd me I'll play nice that and i like your silly signature dog thing.

Well I replaced the exhaust camshaft sensor, problem still persists. I am beginning to think it might be the solenoid or the intake camshaft sensor. Is anyone in vancouver able to give me a hand?

I just finished swapping it and the problem still persists on the original side.

found a thread with similar problem as mine, i'll try o2 sensor next.

sounds like the adjuster is sticking. They arent too bad, but you'll need the special tools. make sure you replace the diamond plated washer and main bolt. I cant see a bad oxygen sensor causing a camshaft fault code but your welcome to swap those as well.

hahaha, its a 22mm. i dont remember off the top of my head the best way but you may need some sort of oxygen sensor socket or adapter.

i just found the easiest pictures to show what im talking about. I dont own those exact products, just similar. Those are for examples.

I know this thread is getting old and very few replies but did anyone have anything to share? Final resolution? I have the same issue with my 2007 ML63, idles good but as soon as I put it in drive CEL, P0017, random misfires, etc. Saw a post from 2 years ago referring to a sticky cam adjuster? I checked all sensors, also replaced solenoid, no improvement.
