M4 Comparison

When I got home today, look what was parked next to me. The guy owns a customization shop and regularly brings home cars he is working on. The guy who bought the M4 is getting full exhaust, headers and tune right away. I sat in it and its comfortable but just like everyone is saying, it doesn't sound very good.

Low light pics so not the best but enjoy.

The car does look very good though, especially with the wide body.

Nice car, but am I the only one who thinks the exhaust on the M4 looks like an afterthought.

Doesn't seem to flow properly in my opinion.

The true test is who can set off more car alarms in the garage.

I'd say whoever gets most has the better car...

In all seriousness, there has been a lot of hate for the M4 on this forum. Not a surprise. It offers A B and C while the C63 offers X Y and Z. We are here for the xyz and m4 owners like the abc.

Which tuner friend is that, I'll make sure to stay away since he drives customer cars home.

I actually really do like the m3/m4. Prefer the m3, but I'd drive an m4. Usually on this forum it will be demanded I am burned or stoned to death though for liking such shenanigans.

I am on board with most of the community though in saying that exhaust just doesn't do it for me. There are some videos out there though with aftermarket exhaust that seem tolerable.

I had the same thought. However, I do know some places that the customers/owners have really good relationships and this sort of thing goes. I would be SHOCKED if that guy drives customer cars home without their permission.

haha yeah, if it had some sort of high revving turbo v8 it'd be perfect. Love that its lightweight with optional carbon roof and CCB.

The sound really is a big turn off and to me a deal breaker, as stupid as it sounds (lol), but I think the exhaust note is a big part of the driving experience. (at the end of the day, I pick the car based on the experience rather than lap times or 0-60s etc)

really wish the next c63 comes with wide rear fenders and a true DCT. DCT seems like it isnt going to happen which is a shame.

^ The exhaust note being the reason you don't buy isn't ridiculous at all... It's why I'm not buying it at least

The standard brakes on the M3/M4 feature cross-drilled steel rotors and fixed front and rear Brembo calipers. The front brakes feature 4-piston calipers while the rear feature 2-piston calipers.

The carbon ceramic brake(s) option for the F80/F82 provides a fixed 6/4 front/rear setup.

I've had the standard M3/M4 brakes on my previous F30 because the F30 M Performance Brakes utilize the exact same calipers as the M3/M4 (with respect to the standard brakes).

And let me tell you, as far as the calipers are concerned, the 4/2 setup is absolutely phenomenal. Great clamping power, awesome brake pedal feel. I can't imagine how good the CCBs are.

Unfortunately, it looks like the W205 is receiving 6-piston fixed front calipers and measly single-piston sliding calipers in the rear.

I've done a bit of research on the new M3/M4 and though they both look great in my opinion, the real upgrades are under the skin. BMW has done a great job in shedding weight and both models look to carry on the M line of being good track cars. However, just like the 20 year old kid in Germany found out when he went skittering off the road and into some trees in his new M4 these cars still require a skilled driver to prevent things like this from happening. I recall one pro driver saying something like "The M3 (E92) will reward a skilled driver but in the hands of an amateur it can be dangerous." Anyway, back to the subject at hand: Since this particular M4 is having headers, exhaust and tune installed won't this invalidate the warranty especially since it appears to not even be broken in yet? Also, the engineering that went into the stock exhaust was extensive though it also uses piped in sound to the cabin similar to the M5.

I agree, however, the weight loss ended up not being as dramatic as originally advertised by BMW M.

The new F80 weighs nearly 3,600 lbs and there are W204 C63s out there that weighed in at 3,820 lbs.

The W205 C-Class is supposed to be at least 220+ lbs lighter than the W204. I think the more powerful, lighter W205 C63 is going to be quite the pleasant surprise.

It's not like that. The vehicles he does bring home are friends of his which is right down the street from my building. His shop is Dirty Devil Customs at the corner of Ventura & Tyrone right next to the car wash and body shop.

It's funny because I was going to go see my friend at Beverly Hills BMW to check out the new M4. Don't have to make that trip anymore.

It is a nice car and there is a lot of things to like about it but yeah, that sound... ugh.

I will report back with pictures and an opinion once he gets everything installed. Maybe I'll grab some video as well. The interesting thing is he should make a substantial bump in HP with those upgrades as turbo cars make big gains with remapping. My 335 made something like 85 HP with the Vishnu tune.

I like BMW, and I hope they can find their way back to making cars that excite me. This M4 isn't it; neither is the M5. Although I do like the rear fenders on the M4 a lot - AMG should take note. The rest of the M4 is ehhhh (I saw one out yesterday). The only BMW M I'd take over the competing AMG is the M6 Gran Coupe over the CLS63 (although I'd really rather have an E63s wagon than either). BMW needs to step up their game so AMG doesn't decide to rest on their laurals or dedicate too much time to ECO-GREEN-BS development.

If cars could talk you know those two would be trash talking in German.

Look at the difference in front overhang
Looks like the entire M engine is behind the front axle centerline
