2015 Mercedes Au price reduction
Read this today.
http://www.motoring.com.au/news/pres...rice-cut-44463
I'm in the marked in the US for a AMG 507 and would be really bummed if I purchased one next week and the 2015 price for the same model is reduced by almost $12,000.
I don't get the USDollar to AUdollar conversion though.
1 AUD = .942 USD.
159,000 AUD converts to 149,000 USD.
Are they selling for that in Australia?

YIKES !!
I don't know much about international pricing but that seems very high.
What does a gallon of milk cost in Austraila? Maybe a dumb question but it'd help me align the differences.

The reduced price is still about twice what the car costs in the US. Much of it is Luxury Car Tax. Some more of it is gouging by the importer -- hiding excess profits behind the LCT. It's from this "fat" that they were able to cut the price, in order to compete with BMW. It has nothing to do with the price of the car in Germany or the US.

So it works out f*cked.
Housing taxes, car taxes, luxury car taxes, carbon tax (wtf :S) etc..
We get **** pumped by the government on a daily basis.

Not to mention sometimes depending on the circumstances we get to pay taxes on top of already taxed goods and services as well. With cars over 57K there's luxury car tax. So wrong. The people who work and do well are punished to subsidise the bums. Ok end rant. Apart from that and the relatively high prices of cars (admittedly not as bad as Singapore) Aus is a great country to live in.
Sorry for repeating someone else post about luxury car tax.

300k Porsche Here is worth 75k - 100k in the US or Mideast lol. If only the US and Mideast had the steering on the right hand side i'd be importing every super car and luxury/sports car that came out lol
John Howard is dearly missed. He put the bums and junkies in line lol.

We can buy supermarket own brand milk from around $2.00 for 2 litres so a gallon for $4.00.
We do have additional taxes but the bulk of the price difference is manufacturer gouging. That said cars like the C63 come here fully optioned - no poverty packs - you start with a pizza with the lot (save for LSD ).
In a couple of years GM, Ford and Toyota will have all closed the Australian manufacturing plants. Now if the government allowed private importing of new vehicles (buy out of the UK as we need right hand drive) the price the manufacturers could charge would plummet. I would happily import my own and pay all the import charges and local taxes.
Some areas of the Australian car market are said to be world price competive (VW Golf GTi/R as an example) but the luxury end gouge us something terrible. If you think the C63 is expensive in Australia you should see what Porsche get away with.
GM Australia exports V8 Holdens to the US as the Chev SS with better engines, more options etc and they sell in the US for less than what they cost in Australia! The same applied to the GTO and G8.
As an aside 37% of Holden Commodores (base car for the Chev SS) sold in Australia are V8s. I suspect there will be a good opening for US made V8 sports sedans/coupes in the coming years.

I still cant help but want to live in Aus. You may get government raped, but it seems like a great country with great people. Too much corporate greed and free handouts for bums in America. I wonder if they let outsiders import their cars. Not to mention beautiful scenery and good music. Anywhere with road trains is already in my book too. V8 super cars... yes please.

It might be a good place to live and raise a family, but the US and other countries have it over us. Even some countries considered as 3rd world countries have it over us.
In Australia, common sense does not exist.
It's the most politically correct 'western nation'.

Looks good. I originally ordered the Magno, but chickened out when I read up on what it takes to maintain, I was also worried that it looked a little flat in some of the videos I had seen. I ended up with a white sedan. I still wonder what the Magno would be like though...
