The service manual does say to replace the drain and filler plugs but this is not really necessary in my opinion.

It also calls out for thread sealant but I reused the existing plugs.

If you need any more help just let me know

JR, thanks for all the useful tips! If you ever have some time on a weekend and would like a free 12-pack, it would be great to get a second pair of eyes so that I don't screw up the diff fluid change (it looks simple, but I'm sure I will find a way). I just moved back to Dallas a few weeks ago, along with my C63.

Bump on this as I'm due to this work now.
Living in Brazil grants me summer all year round, but the Herculean task of finding what Mercedes Benz suggest on the owners manual. This Castrol Synthrax 75w140 is just impossible to find here. I can't import it from abroad (custom's laws and whatnot), so I'm down to the Castrol Synthrax 75w90 or the Motul Gear Competition 75w140. I don't do hard track days on my car, mostly only spirited driving (if much). I've read that the 75w90 would be safe, but should I stick to the thickness from factory? Is the 75w90 good enough? - and by that I mean safe to keep me unharmed for the next 50 years (the time I plan to spend with this car).

Any help is very much appreciated.
Best regards.

Do the motul, it’s a better suited gear oil for the situation

I’m about to change mine out this week for this. Currently using Castrol Syntrax. They say this Motul is even better than the regular Competition for heavy track use.

I'm a bit suspicious about Motul here in Brazil. It showed up really strong in these past 2-3 years, with all the indy shops telling us "this is the best, forget about the manufacture recomendations". Usually it's also 2-3x more expensive. I'm that "stick by the book" kind of guy. I know there are lot of aftermarket shops that really know how to deal with engines and whatnot, but I respect the AMG engineers a lot. Now, I also know that there are lots of good brands around the worl.. I knew Motul long before it became a 'hit' here in South America... But why only now shops started offering it? Am I being clear enough about my doubts..? Well. I'm probably going for them... Just thought about sharing my anxiety. I'm no expert, just always afraid of being tricked.
