Just changed Differential Fluid
Hey Everyone,
Just changed the differential fluid in my 2014 C63 AMG Coupe 507. As most of you know it is due initially at 2,000 miles for LSD differentials. It has 2,500 miles on it right now so I decided to do it today.
Doing it myself it cost me about $60.00 and about an hour of my time. A lot cheaper than taking it to the dealership and I know it is done right
I have trust issues with other people working on my stuff, guess I am a bit meticulous
It is very easy to do and just about anyone should be able to tackle it themselves. You need a 19mm wrench for the plugs if anyone was wondering.
The fluid was pretty dirty and had a lot of particulates in it that looked like clutch pack material and possibly some material from the initial gear break in so I am glad that I did it when it was due.
I purchased the fluid at ECS Tuning. That is usually where I purchase all of my Mercedes parts

It's a drain and fill application, no need for a pump. Always loosen top first just in case it's seized...you don't wanna open the bottom bolt to find out that you can't get the top bolt out, this is just good practice. now open bottom bolt and drain. If you want, you can re-use the bolts, which most people do, or you can purchase new ones. Put the bottom bolt back in and torque it down to spec, open top bolt and fill until it starts to drip from the top and close it up and torque to spec. I believe it 1.2 or 1.5L to fill, so buy 2 liters. 75w140 synthetic. No need for funnels as usually the bottle has the application to fill in the bottle. Easy as that my friend

Thanks for the info.
Sound very straight forward.
As for the other comments, I asked because I have heard of others only having one bolt at the top/ side and having to pump the fluid out, and needing a pump it back in.
So, this one sounds pretty straight forward.

The correct gear oil is complete and no additive is required. My manual calls for Fuchs Titan EG 5010 D but in NA the OEM gear oil seems to be Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip 75W-140 and what I got from the dealer with a MB parts label on it.
Oem for lsd on AMG and BMW M
It's a valid question -- 2 of the trans' I've done the fluid on have the side fill method. Picking up an extra bottle or two in order to flush out the factory fill fluid is not a bad idea either.

I changed the fluid in my LSD diff today.
Picked up three little bottles (.5L) from the dealer for $45.
The little bottles have a built in snout that pulls out and it is perfect for filling the diff.
Takes 1.2 quarts/liters so I had some left to throw away.
Very simple job.

Thanks for posting. This will come in handy in a few weeks when I do mine.
BTW, what's the torque spec for the drain and fill bolts?

No you don't. OEM lsd is a clutch type,as it breaks in you get clutch material mixing in with the gear oil. Wavetrac is a gear type lsd.
My Wavetrac fluid was changed out at 10k miles. The original Motul Competition fill appeared to have few if any metallic particulates so I would say you can safely follow Wavetrac's recommendation that the fluid need never be changed.

Did you replace the drain and fill plugs with new ones? I have read that the service manual calls for replacing them, but the dealer often does not do this. I cannot for the life of me find the plug online.
