Have you guys seen the new 2015 Hell-Cat from Dodge/Chrysler?
Richard Rawlings from Gas Monkey garage ran a 10.8 quarter at 126+ on DR's. http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-vide...d-quarter-mile
I know this is a “Benz” forum and I am expecting some of the Mercedes-fan-boy to bash it as many of them do when it comes to other cars fromother manufactures. Perhaps the naïve blood in my veins is hoping that the true car guys in this forum will chime in and appreciate this new Dodge for what itis.
I like it…it is not on my new car buying radar, but I can see it posing a serious threat to many would competitors in stock form and especiallyafter some exhaust, cold air kit, tuning maybe E85 and pulley kit with better tires and wheels. It is nice seeing Dodge taking the fight to the competition and beyond. Let’s see where Dodge prices this bad boy…I hope they learned their lesson and don’t over price it like with the last Viper.
Anyway, to me, it is a nice car for what it is – a tasteful throwback to the Muscle car days.

Yep, the battle is getting hot...I love it!
We are currently living in a great car era...many of us can buy a decently equipped car, take the family out to on vacation, leave them at the hotel and run some serious track numbers, head back to the hotel, shower and go out to dinner.
This was unheard of back in the day

It's a monster, but Detroit is so lo-tech you want to scream. It has 16 valves, operated by pushrods. The redline is somewhere between 5,000 and 6,000 rpm. As if to hedge their bets, the 250 rpm marks on the tach just stop at 5,000.
Imagine what Detroit could do if they joined the 21st century? Or even the 20th.

11.2@125mph on stock tires. Mag times will be better than that, "owners" even more so.
The SVT pictured above is rumored to be the GT350, GT500 power with Boss 302 handling (or better).
I was looking into these cars when I stumbled across the 2012 Cobra Jet. It isn't street legal, but it pulled off 0-60 in 1.52 seconds and hit 100 in 3.52. Insane.

I'm an SRT guy. I've owned 4 of them (SRT-4, SRT-6, 2006 300 SRT-8, 2012 300 SRT-8). I love the comfort. I love the power. Great great cars for the money.
I've got a couple friends who are in line to order these as soon as the window opens next month (and already have the vanity plates on order).
Can't wait to see what a pulley/intake/tune does.

However, in many racing circles, Detroit is right up there in the tech dept. In events such as Indy, AMLS and Drag racing and so on. Detroit, in particular GM is right up there with the rest. I wish they could pass along many of that tech to the streets like how for example, Merc, BMW and Nissan do with some of their street vehicles.
As far as the pushrod technology, if aint it broke, dont fix it. Many of those GM big V8 motors are very stout and can get plenty good MPG's considering their size and lack of techno when compared to the rest.
Those motors can spit out ton of power w/o having to revv them to the moon or having to use turbos to get there vs. others. I am impressed with the simplicity, flexibility, durabilty and power producing abilites of those pushrod equipped GM LS-series engines. Granted, the new LT4 in the 2015 Z06 is supercharged, but it too has pushrods and I am willing to bet it will outlast and it will be a lot less finicky vs those equally high output N/A engines from Ferrari or Lambo.

Not a fan boy of any particular make/model. I can & do respect and admire any and all performance cars.
I like Mopar/SRT products. I had three Vipers ('02, '06, '09) and I absolutely loved them all.
I remember back around 2008, a Dodge Neon SRT flew by me. It was obviously modded with a big turbocharger. I tried to catch him in my '06 Viper Coupe; I couldn't. I've never been more impressed with the speed that car generated.
I'd consider the Hellcat, but probably will not b/c it's just too damn big. If it were 7/8th in size as opposed to 11/10 in size, I'd probably own one!
On another note, if I had to own a full size truck (not a truck guy), it would only be the Ram with the dual exhausts right below the rear bumper cut outs. Nice looking truck.
I thought the horsepower wars would end in 2008/9, shortly after the housing market took a big hit, and shortly after GM's bankruptcy . Looks like I was wrong. It's a great time to be a car enthusiast!

In fact, I did the same thing back to my 1987 Grand National - so did Weistec copy me?
I'm just saying....

I have read up and watched some videos re this the other day.
Sensational power but what is the rest of it like (being an Aussie I have no idea)? I went from the Aussie built HSV performance product (think Chev SS, Pontiac GTO, G8) to the C63 and I have to say there is simply no comparisom in build quality, component quality, feel, chassis etc etc, The HSV may have offered bang for buck but is not in the same league as the C63.
Like it or not, historically the USA has not had a great international reputation for automotive build quality although that has changed over the last decade. Seriously, how does the build quality and chassis on these things stack up against the "premium" euros?
Australia may be a destination for your USA built performance v8s in a few years time as all our local production will cease

Pretty cool, but not for me.
People keep saying Detroit this and Detroit that, keep in mind it is a Fiat and they are planning to move all production to Mexico where Fiat already makes that little roller skate car. But then again Fiat also owns Ferrari....

Muscle cars had there place, It doesn't matter if these cars have 1200hp from the factory doing road courses will be garbage.
It's something they have never understood

Very cool stuff -- can't say I care for MOPAR but always respected SRT and what they brought to the table. That said, the SVT is shaping up nice. Less power but hopefully they have the rear geometry sorted out from the factory to deliver all that power right

i've been reading on this in the corvette forums, which got those guys a little flustered that it has more HP than the upcoming Z06. I laugh at it since that is a total apples to oranges comparison.
The great thing is that consumers now have a plethora of choices when it comes to powerful cars from factory, fully backed by a manufacturers warranty to boot. In the end, no matter what you choose to drive, everyone wins due to the great amount of choices we have for muscle cars now.

dodge needed some middle ground now that the viper is 100k$, loaded challenger is what maybe 50k$? It's cool, i think all muscle cars like this should really be manual only but pretty cool to buy a 10 sec reliable track drag car with warranty for that price as much as i dislike dodge it's cool they made it happen

Over priced one trick pony.
When the new challenger came out I thought it was an over priced rattle trap. Lots of plastic, much like everything else.
The playa that buys that is going to be in for a big surprise when he gets the bill for his first brake job.

Nope. They started giving the cars to the media to check out yesterday. Someone leaked a slide from the presentation from SRT: $59,999.
Insane value. And when you take into account how much more comfortable and easy to drive every day, Challengers are than Mustangs and Camaros....they're going to sell the hell out of the Hellcat.
