Speaking of '55Tech', they just sent me a message that says they had 2 single fin gloss black grills in stock when I placed my order, but both had defects upon inspection prior to shipping. They placed another order immediately and they had arrived yesterday, my shipment should take place today or tomorrow.
They are either A - lying to cover up a "non-stock" sale, or B - they have good QC and CS which I can really appreciate as I am somewhat picky about the quality of my items.
Either way, I am happy to know I should be receiving a blemish free item.

I dipped my engine parts too with plasti dip it holds but it ripped easily because of the heat.
If you plan on painting it I would recommend buying "Dupli Color Engine Enamel" I have my painted red and it has a glossy look to it and it stands up to 500º only problem is once you paint it you can rip it off like plasti dip lol

I removed the airboxes and the front V shape piece and dipped it with matte black plasti dip I only did 5 coats.
I left my car sit on my driveway for a week to let the dip cure and harden up (during the day I would open the hood and let the sunlight hit it)
After about a week it seemed pretty solid like it would hold. I started driving it and I realized after a long day of driving the heat from the engine would heat up the dip and make it a little soft when you touch it.
I was stupid and decided to rub my fingers across the engine cover and I rubbed a little too hard and it ripped. So eventually I removed all the dip and just painted airboxes and V shape cover with Dupli Color Engine Enamel in red.
Plasti dip will stay but you have to be careful with it especially after you drive the car when the engine cover is hot you don't want to touch it because it might rip like mine.

Ahh, i see i see.
Okay, i havnt tested mine to the touch after a long day of driving. I will though, in an inconspicuous spot.
I too did 5 coats.
I would suggest, against your red cover, yes, Black ///AMG + i personally would to the badge and honeycomb on the "V" part black too.
The finish on your red, looks great though.

Data sheet http://www.plastidip.com/docs/plastidip_uv.pdf
Probably over 200 f under the hood after a hard run then parked
The coolant is 200 or so
The metal must be hotter

Thank you very much I'm having trouble doing the letters and emblem in black because it's so hard to tape it up and make it perfect.
I'm curious did you use the can spray or did you use the spray gun with an air compressor?

And i want this, it's ****.
Do my engine covers! I want matte black too.
Sometimes the smallest mods are the ones that put the biggest smile on your face. I see this as one of them.

Reviving this 1 month in.
Paint is still holding up perfectly, with no signs of coming off.
Just did my oil change today too. Used Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 this time round.
Also drained the oil cooler.
Man, the oil in the oil cooler is terrible. I dont think that gets circulated around as much, coz it was quite thick and gluggy.
The oil from the sump was in great condition though.

How is the dust with the Plastidip? I remember with plasti dip surfaces it would attract dust like crazy.
