Painted Engine Covers [PICS]

Plasti-Dipped Engine Covers.

What do you guys think?

It kinda looks a bit 'glossy' in the pics, but in real life, its more matte.
Also, i am tossing up weather to 'reveal' the ///AMG lettering. Thought i would leave it as is for now. But, maybe needs the ///AMG to break it up a bit.

I also left the star chrome. I think it looks much better than black.

All in all, i am really happy with it. I never liked the silver. And great thing about it is, being plastidip, can just peel it off if i get sick of it!

Is this shopped or did you actually do it?
I wonder how the dip will hold up to the heat, but dang it looks really clean and nice.

Nice but with the heat in the engine bay I don't know if the plastidip will hold

If it were my car, I'd expose the AMG lettering.

If it were my car, I would leave it all blk. I think exposing the lettering will be far harder to peel away on the textured finish of the covers than a flat surface and you will end up messing up the entire job, not to mention, I think it will look tacky. Just my .02.

Sorry PurpleHeart, no offense.

I just googled it and dip is tested up to 200 degrees F.

I also watched this:

I think it will hold up. You should go drive your car hard for a while and then assess what the dip looks like and make a judgement call after that.

No worries at all. I think it would balance out nicely with the intake manifold. No doubt it would be a PITA to get just the lettering exposed though especially with the intake already being textured.

Peeling it may be a *****, with the texture. Yeah, i thought of that, but i was justing going to run a box cutter carefully around the edges first to help give it that initial 'separation'.

With regard to the heat, i have no doubt at all it will be fine.

We plastidipped my friends M3 mufflers (he got a new exhaust system, and they were chrome, and looked a bit tacky from the rear), so we plasti dipped them.

He drives that car like he stole it, so they would heat up. Never had a problem with the dip.

Awesome! Then I like it even more! Don't know if I would do it, but I am happy to see others outside the box.

^ I was going to comment on people dipping their exhaust tips but saw so many mixed reviews. Some said the dip would just melt. Others said it showed no signs of wear.

Who knows, it's the internet. I would think it would hold up fine but don't want to be that guy who says it will and it melts everywhere.

First hand experience, on an E92 M3 at least, can tell you its held up fine for about 8 months of HARD driving

Do you guys think the temperature in the engine bay < 200 F degrees?
I'm pretty sure the exhaust tips aren't as hot as under the hood.
I do not want to start a fight here but we'll see how goes. Keep us posted OP.

This and that.
Heat was my first thought as well. Curious to see the outcome as well. Looks good though.

Very nice.

On a side note, what grill do you have?

The grille is an eBay Facelift replica one. 55Tech (see other thread for link)
Perfect fitment.
If you are questioning the star in the middle, its a genuine distronic star from an ML63, in place of the original star

Looks quite nice! I think some red accents would be a nice touch.

Still waiting for the official 'Thank You' hhahahahaha.

For $50 you saved yourself $3000-$4000 on a carbonio and cold air intake that would net you no gains hahahah! As we've seen with some people on this site who have headers, carbonios, intakes etc and still can barely break the 12's! LOL

Then you see stock fellas hitting high 11's with no tune nothing !

Looks mean! Love it.
