Radar choice: V1 or anything else?

Anyone running anything other than a Valentine 1 for similar price and feel it is more effective? If so, what?

Also any vendors on this forum or any websites that you guys have previously used to order a package with some of the additional items you can get for it or is the website the best route to go?

Thanks,
Oleg

Escort Passport 9500ix.

I've used it for a decade and I've had zero speeding tickets in that time (knock on wood). The GPS lockout feature is awesome.

I tried the V1 for fun and I did not like it. Too many false alarms. I find the arrow system gimmicky; I just want to know that there's a threat; I don't care where it is.

Not trying to start a war either. For those of you that have the V1 and like it, I'm happy for you.

I've got the Escort Passport Max. Similiar to the 9500ix, and I've been very happy with it. Great range, gps is nice, and the lockout feature works well.

I have the Passport 8500 X50, black model. It's consistently been proven as the best detector in the $300 price range, and even against higher models. Got it from Best Buy when it was on sale, plus used a 10% coupon from USPS for a total of $180. Just go to any post office and request a mover's coupon book.

Only thing it doesn't have is GPS lockout, like the 9500ix, which lets you block false alarms from automatic shop doors that you might run across in daily driving. But that can always be added with the Smartcord from Escort.

If you decide to get the 8500, make sure you get the "black" version, instead of the older "grey" model. The black version has updated hardware. I found the deal on slickdeals.com a few months back, and it's already saved me from getting nailed twice.

Passport 9500ix is also the one I use, very good features, favourite one would be to lock out X-band like zibby said my friend has the V-1 and gives out a lot of false K-Bands

Sure man! No problem.

So, several places (e.g., banks, supermarkets, etc.) utilize radar for automatic opening/closing doors (K band is a prime example).

If you drive by a store that utilizes a K band signal, the detector will pick up on that signal and thus, you'll get a false alarm.

The GPS lockout feature allows you to press a button twice (I believe it is the mute button twice) and the detector will memorize the location of this false alarm signal and lock it out permanently.

Now, after utilizing the GPS lockout feature, if you drive by the store later, the detector won't pick up this false alarm.

Furthermore, if there is a police officer across the street from the store using K or Ka band, the detector will pick up this signal as the GPS has only locked out the other signal at the store.

Hope that helps.

The gps-enabled feature of the 9500ix I find the most useful is the red-light camera speed camera database that is regularly updated via subscription. I'm amazed how many cameras are out there as I travel around. For example - and particularly during rush hour - it really helps to know when you are approaching an intersection with a red-light camera. I was behind a guy last week who stuck the nose of his car into the intersection and then the light turned and the camera flashed. Hate to get a ticket like that.

I use a Phantom-T from Rocky Mountain Radar.

For spirited driving I use three.

I have been using V1 for many years now ticket free. I love the direction personally only complaint with V1 (mine is 4 years old) the radar range is only ample even on a flat road.

Check out Passport 9500 as well. I hope info helps you.

Just got a v1 and it's solid and like the directional warnings BUT it gets a lot of false alarms! I turned on traffic filter which cut down a lot of them but my area seems to get a lot of k and x alerts...other parts of town no noise unless it's radar

I dropped the V1. It has always had a lot of false alarms, but since they started introducing traffic sensors that transmit on K Band all around here it has become unusable. I have since swapped to the Passport Max. That one has a special algorithm suppressing the new traffic sensors, and also locks out fixed sources via GPS.

I was about to ditch radar detectors altogether as no longer useful, but am happy I tried the Passport Max. It's signal processing is way smarter.

But then, the biggest threat nowadays, esp. on Interstates, is Laser. For that I have active Laser Jammers front and rear. A detector would just tell you, that you've been had. Unfortunately I know from experience.

The problem with Waze app is now your vehicle speed is being recorded into a database essentially recording how fast you are going and your location! Not ideal

This just happened a month ago. Does anyone doubt that GM, or M-B, or Waze could/will be served with a court order requesting that information for some/any purpose?

Microsoft was ordered on July 31 to comply with a U.S. Department of Justice warrant to produce emails stored at the company's data center in Dublin, Ireland. The Redmond, Wash.-based software giant operates a network of several data centers across the globe to provide Web and cloud services.
Manhattan's U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska ruled that Microsoft must turn over the emails to the DOJ, despite the fact that they reside on overseas servers. In a judgment that is sure to have implications for American cloud providers, Preska determined that since the data is stored and controlled by a U.S.-based company, the government can request it regardless of where it resides.

Plus, Waze was really hit or miss for me. Many times I get a warning about cops, that have moved on, and also often a cop sits on the median and has not yet been reported. 50% accuracy is not good enough.

Maybe different when they tend to sit stationary somewhere for a while, but here they rarely sit more than a few minutes before they move.

This and that.
I constantly hear 9500ci being the best and I think it's also the most expensive at around the $1500 range. I've had quotes for that and laser jammers and around $2500 installed, it isn't really ideal. I don't think I will have the car long enough for it get even by the number of tickets I would get.

V1 on "small L" logic mode is absolutely brilliant. It has found cops hiding their signal behind X and K band false signals. Has saved my **** numerous times already, including finding the 7 sneaky NJ state troopers hiding on 80 last weekend...

NJ Troopers are the best at speed traps. They need a degree and are smart compared to other states. They always get picked on for profiling, but the truth is they're probably the best officers in the country.
