Need some wheel info
Hello all,
Looking for some help on a topic less covered when it comes to wheels. I am trying to gather information (the more contributions the better) real reliable data on our wheel flexibility. Specifically, I'm asking for some measurements from you guys on the REAR wheels.
Basically, I'm trying to figure out how much INNER clearance people have on their setups. OEM or Aftermarket, it doesn't matter. Also curious to see how different these results are.
Please give the following information when replying:
Wheel Width:
Wheel Offset:
Inner Clearance: (millimeters please, use google to convert if you need)
Lowered: Y/N
Spacer: Y/N & Size
And here is a picture of the measurement I'd like. I just drew this so don't be sticklers on accuracy etc. It just gives you the idea of what I'm looking for. It's the only circle with a big arrow pointing to it. The distance from the inner wheel/tire to the NEAREST point on the suspension.
Sorry if a lot of that was redundant as hell. Just need this to be accurate to see what kind of width I can get in the back of this car without modifying fenders.
Thanks all who help out. I will also do this myself. My plan is to just back my car up on ramps, crawl my happy *** underneath, and see if I can get a solid measurement that way.

The end goal here is to put a wheel in the back that is as wide as I can go without have stupid poke out from the fender and also be able to clear inside.

If you're looking for maximum wheel width, that would be a 10. There is no way you are going to run anything wider without wider fenders.
Offset? My opinion what works is a +52. I do this on all my personal C63 set ups and run 275's.... I'm lowered on springs. I've also done this setup on coil overs with all smiles as well.
Take all that into account with your research, we have done countless wheel and tire set ups for this particular car and have even built wide body C63's to accommodate bigger and this is what works for us.
Hope that helps.

^On my last c63 I ran 10.5's, lowered on PSS 275's. I rubbed only in the most extreme circumstances and had no fender modifications.
I'd be happy to team up with someone eventually for a set of wheels. At the worst I'll be back with 10.5's but if I can get an 11 in there I am going to.

I would love to help as well, but I don't see how I can get my hand in there without a ramp. A lift will not give u an accurate measurement as u need the suspension to compress.
I'm running 19x10 +50 w/275/30 PSS & it works perfectly on h&r springs w/o rubbing.
Was ur ADV poking out a bit at 19x10.5? Is that the look u r going for?

I also don't have the money to modify my rear fenders. I wish because I'd do that and run a 12'' wheel w/ a 315 that was actually concave.
I already sent you a pm back, but basically if this doesn't work out I will probably just end up safely with a 10 and call it a day.

So, here is a picture that I took off of ADV's website in their media gallery..
This car has 21x10.5's in the rear. 21 is too big, but that isn't what matters. Notice that this wheel obviously fits (it's on the car...) AND it is clearly tucked in a little.
If I can get everything measured up, I bet I can buy a few mm's and bring that wheel out to flush or 1-2mm past flush, clear inside, and have an 11.

Well, FYI
Im am now running 9.5" rears, ET48
on Kumho 275/30/19 rubs on road bumps / undulations
on PZERO 265/30/19 same as above
2010 C63 Estate.
I am thinking i will be changing to 255's now

I am running 10 x 19 ET + 52 on the rear and lowered 20mm on H&R springs. If I put a straight edge on my wheel lip it just touches the outside of the fender lip at -2* camber. I have run 275 Michelin PSS and they just snick once in a while. I have 265 Michelin PSS now (could not get 275 at the time) and I don't think they rub at all but the biggest difference seems to be the diameter rather than the width. Either look great and very flush on the car. The 265 shows a little more gap to the fender but hardly noticeable.
I measured the rotor outer surface to the shock when I did the wheel install and got 6 3/4" on either side on the rear. I just measured the height of the hub above the rotor surface but with the wheels on I could not measure exactly. I got 1 1/4" or so. So 8" from the rear hub to the shock. The back spacing on the wheels is 7 19/32" and subtracted from 8" leaves .41" or 10.41mm. That gives you the clearance you are looking for on the inside. I will warn that the fill pipe and ABS/pad wear wires on the right side are closer to the wheel at 6 1/2" and 6 3/8" and will rub first. The ABS/pad wear wires may be relocated but I don't think the fill pipe would be easy to relocate. The clearance to the wires is only ~ 4-5mm as it is now.

^Awesome, thanks for that.
Once I get underneath I'll take a special note on the clearances that are back there for wires as you say.
My biggest question is why haven't people ran 11's. It seems plausible so I just don't understand that.
I reached out to HRE as well to see if we can bounce ideas off one another.
Compared to your setup mort... 10 +52 vs an 11 +59 = extending 5 mm w/ 21 mm less inner clearance.
I had 10.5 +52 which poked a little, but was perfectly acceptable to me. Never knew a half an inch would cause so many problems

Roswell -- It's not going to happen buddy. I'd need fender flares to not have stupid poke and that is already more than I want.
I'll probably go with a standard 10'' setup.

Guys, the rim width recommended by Michelin, Bridgestone and Yokohama for 275/30/19 is 9-10 inches. Lower than 9 and tracking accuracy will suffer from sideways movement. Bigger than 10 inches risks starts having higher risk of breaking the air seal on the rim, e.g. at lower pressures.
I have 295s on 10 inch and that looks perfectly square to me. Note: not the stock fenders.

^^ bro, did u find out what offset is on the ADV in ur post#9?
They look perfect for x10.5!! They don't stick out as much as ur previous set.

At the top of the gallery it says they are 21x9 and 21x10.5. Unknown offsets.
I don't think my old set really stuck out too much. See below..
These are my exact wheels, just a photo from who I got them from originally.
I'm actually considering buying them back (if who I sold them to is willing) and replacing the barrel on that one wheel. Much cheaper to do all that and have them refinished in whatever colors than buy a new set of wheels.

That's a great looking car.
And the wheels and tires are stellar!!! Love the lip and the push out.
