Lug nuts!!

Just looking for opinions on this topic. I'm looking for lug nuts that are top quality but come in many colors since I'm debating what color to paint my break calipers.
I'm sure many of you have experiences and I would like to hear about it all!

Thanks!!

Wanna save some money? head to you local /Audi dealer, buy the plastic caps (they come grey, and they have one for the lock nut too!), paint them to match your caliper, clear coat and there you go...

^ This. Also get the $2 plastic cap pulling pincer while you're at it. And, solvent-based paint will partially dissolve the top layer of the plastic and bond to the caps so well that it is impossible to peel it off. I wouldn't even bother with the clear coat.

Stud conversion is the way to go if you are looking for a multitude of color options and styles.

I swapped out to studs and volk racing forged nuts. I prefer the studs for ease of swapping wheels.

Can't comment on the first part (I have never looked for funky colors and am using the OEM black anodized aluminium nuts on the P-car), but 100% correct on the second. It makes swapping wheels at the track a hell of a lot easier, and if you use an open-ended nut you can visually check if any of them are working themselves loose after each lapping session.

Not sure if studs would make much sense for a street vehicle with OEM wheels from a cost perspective though (especially in climates where people run the same set of wheels year-round) as the plastic "Audi" caps are a lot cheaper. A full set on eBay incuding the extraction tool will run you under $20, you can paint them in whatever color you want and it's something that you can do on your own without any mechanical knowledge or tools. You can even use your wife's nail polish on the caps if that's the color you're after... nice metallic light bronze to match the AMG Carbon Ceramic brake calipers.

Meng you can always plasti dip them red if they don't come in that colour.

@Djmouz63 I ordered the studs from Apex Wheels. They are 14 x 1.5, Depending on your choice of lug nuts, you will have have to order a shank length that will work.

These are silicone (rubber)... the color is probably not right though:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/20pcs-Univers...92d5dc&vxp=mtr

Other 17mm lug bolt caps on eBay:

http://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_from=...+caps&_sacat=0

Buy the Audi or another plastic set and spray-paint the tops (you don't even need to worry about the sides) with some Tremclad Rust-Oleum from Home Depot (color choices at http://www.rustoleum.ca/CBGProduct.asp?pid=7). It will permanently bind to the plastic and never come off.

Thx Diabolis for the links. I prefer Ingenieur link cuz it comes with the oem lock covers.

I will try them gunmetal as is first, if I think it's too blend I will brush paint them in red.. Nothing to lose for 30$shipped. Lol

And if I don't like them on my HRE, I will use them on my multispoke only. But I saw Matt estate on HRE / red covers.. Beautiful!!

Don't brush...buy a can of spray paint @ crappy tire...it will work perfectly, I even clear coated them after for high gloss finish

^^ I could do that too, just thought it would be more messy to spray. Did you have to sand them down first? Thx

Nope, they have a matte finish, so no need to sand, they will turn out perfect.

awesome thx! I ordered them already, will try gunmetal first & see if I like them. But most likely I will spray red to spice things up when I get bored of my wheels... cheaper than buying a new set of wheels each year.

They grey will good on your wheels
I think you'll like it
Like you said meh $30
It does protect the lug s little
I put a little wd40 in the cap
I guess antisieze, etc would work
Prevents rust and they go on/off easier

Thanks for the link. These covers will look great on my gunmetal HRE's. Do they come off the stock lugs rather easily? Of course I will use WD-40 on them before I put them on.

With the tool they pop right off and snap on easily
The lug bolt head on the Audi and AMG are the same dimensions

My oem black
The grey ones match perfect on the oem color

Exactly in the same situation. Hope the covers will help clean up the look of the ugly oem lugs. Thx again Ing for the link, I've been looking for those for a while but didn't know the locks had covers made for them.

I'm 50/50 on painting them red.. Do u think the locks covers will look much different/noticeable/bulky in red? I would have to paint it entirely cuz my rear wheels, the lugs protude a bit.
