It is a 6.3L engine. In Europe it is taxed accordingly. Also, with numerous vehicles in my garage all of them are rounded up.
While paying homage is certainly the case for a continuation of the "63" moniker the M156 is a 6.3L engine according to MB, AMG, the government, my dashboard, my quarter-panel badges, and me.
A co-worker has a GL63 and the badge says V10 not 6.3
But in all seriousness I don't understand why anyone would shortchange the engine. Call it a 2.0T if you want but you will make no sense to me.
Just my thought.
OP good luck, hope it is something simple.
I can not say for certain what they did 8-10 years ago on C55's but the impression I got from them recently is all the motors spend some time on an engine dyno and a quick run through the gears on a chassis dyno. I know for certain that all AMG Black Series cars are run on an engine dyno, chassis dyno and then 20-50 miles on a track test. I know this because I was irate when I picked up my SLS BS and it had 51 miles on it. I made a post over on the AMG Private Lounge about the miles and they explained the process to me that they put 20-50 miles on all them. Funniest part of the story is I found a german iPhone in my car a day after I took delivery and it turned out that a test driver lost it in my car while on the track.
Good feedback - the delivery-mileage story and the iPhone story both earned a grin.
It would not be surprising to find that a SLS BS gets a little more thorough checkout than a vanilla high-volume C63. Do you think your source on the AMG PL might be willing to answer this one for us?

Liek I said I know for sure all the Black Series cars get a more thorough track test and I do know that my SLS had a lot more miles on it at delivery than my C Black Series and CLK Black Series so you may be right about the SLS Black Series having an even more thorough testing procedure.
They would be more than happy to answer any questions you have pertaining to pretty much anything AMG related. The PL is a good source not only for questions but they usually release official info and ordering guides and news there a day or two before it it released to the masses. Also they are always giving away free goodies....and I mean nice free stuff, limited edition AMG posters and prints, hats, shirts, jackets, VIP auto show passes, VIP F1 tickets, I won a beautiful solid pewter 1/16 model of a CLK DTM from there. They have special events and offers for PL members such as Private Lounge days track events which are amazing free or almost free track events. It is free to register all you need is a AMG VIN. The fact tht you need a VIN keeps most of the trolls away which is nice. Once a month they have private chat sessions where they have AMG engineers and product specialist and sometimes even peopel way up the AMG food chain chatting live to answwer just about anything you can throw at them. They are pretty strict about bickering at forum nonsense, it is tightly moderated and monitored but it is a good source for the most accurate info.
Lots of modern performance engines are dynoed after being assembled. This is why I do personally believe the break is procedure is more to break in the driver than the engine. If there was no break in procedure people will be more likely to wrap their new car around a tree.
End of the day follow the break in or not it's your car and you should be able to do whatever you want.
You guys all need to learn your Mercedes/AMG history. The 6.3/63 designation has nothing to do with a 6.2 or 6.3 engine. It pays homage to the 1971 300 SEL 6.3. AMG's first race car the Red Pig(red sow) was a 1971 300SEL with a 6.3L motor punched out to a 6.8L displacement...yet they still reefer to that as a 6.3................Google It!!! Why do you think they are still calling the new 5.5 and 4.0 motors 63's?
Interesting discussion over on the Vette forum. It looks like GM engineers have programmed the Z06 ECU to forcefully prevent overly aggressive driving during the breakin period.

I hate it too, but not going to hear from him, 2 posts ever on the forum, 2 hours apart both in this thread from 2 years ago then never again. He joined the forum a few minutes before starting this thread and he last logged in 2 hours later for his second post.
