Battery Replacement

Well guys, it finally happened. After 5 years ole father winter killed my battery. With that comes the question "what battery to buy!?". I use to just buy autozone batteries for my old GT Mustang but before I go out and just buy whatever I wanted to see what batteries y'all were running or if there's an opinion on brand out here.

Thanks in advanced!

Well if you OEM battery lasted 5 years, maybe you should get another one. 5 years is pretty good for a battery. Plus if you call roadside assistance, they'll replace it for you for "free."

Don't buy an OEM battery not worth the extra cost. FYI any relative good battery will last 5 years

Get a light weight battery like a Braille or another brand. You'll save about 45 lbs in weight.

Problem with Braille battery is they are not intended to be used daily. With all the electronics in our car these compact batteries will never have the same performance as an OEM one. Don't get me wrong BRAILLE is a good brand and making well designed racing batteries. I had one on my previous sedan (I still have it) that I used for track/spirited drives. But you can tell they are not recommended for daily use as the car was cranking longer before I could get it started.
At the end of the day I would stick with OEM and get a braille for a spare. They only cost $250 for a 18lbs not $2k! lol!

Amazon Prime has them for $200 with free shipping.

I don't run my car but two or three times per month and never in the winter so I may give one a try in the spring.

Buy an AGM battery. There are many brands of AGM batteries in the Group specified for the C63 but all of them are manufactured by only two companies in the U.S. so the actual retail brand doesn't matter. Just make sure it's AGM technology and shop on price (which likely will be $145-175 + core on the more reasonable end of things). For reference I paid $137 for a Die Hard Advanced Gold AGM a while back and that's the lowest price I've ever seen.

Just checked - today's price is $189.99...ouch!

I would go with Interstate. My 02 Clk55 has 96k miles with a 7+year old battery. It started right up in 9F degrees in the morning!

Call roadside no charge to replace. Bat + tax should not be more than $210. I believe it's $205. 2 year 22k warranty as well.

If not mentioned already, Interstate makes batteries for most all German cars...namely Benz.

After doing some searching since I think I need to replace my battery. It appears we have a smaller auxiliary battery under the hood.

If so, disconnecting the rear main battery would not remove the 12VDC feed from the electronics.

Jasonoff, are you saying you have a trunk mount battery as well as an aux under the cabin filter, passenger side near the firewall?
Wifes' CLK63 Cab only has the engine compartment under the filter batt, no trunk battery as my E does and obviously no aux in the E.
We obviously live in the wrong part of the world, there are guys running 7 years old batteries that put out 11.7 volts

I have not confirmed that yet.

BUT, if you use the part finder on the Exide website it shows one is available. Will be swapping out my main battery tonight. Will report back

My car is a late 2010 model and I think my battery should be nearing the end based on age. How long do these OEM batteries usually last?

I've seen the oem vrla / glass matt batteries last up to 10yrs and still working and testing good. Id never trust one that old but they typically last over 5yrs no problem. The battery charging system and its algorithms to not over charge the battery are very efficient at improving the life of the battery. The c63's only have one battery and it's in the trunk. Other models do have multiple batteries but not the c63.

Also something to consider is the production date of the car. just because it's a 2010 doesnt mean it wasnt made in 2009. If its the original battery in the car you can look at the negative post. There should be some stamped numbers. The first set of numbers is the week number the second the year. so for example 32/10 would mean 32nd week of 2010.

Whoops, I forgot to report back and yeah, couldn't find that 2nd aux battery.

Main battery replacement is simple. No need to maintain 12VDC. Just swap it out.

I have short drives to work which can prematurely kill a battery.

Run an Red top Optima in my winter car, Tiburon, no issues 950 or 1000 amp but when looking to replace the Benz batteries it was a thought but could not find a recommended battery from Optima, I do like the performance from them but maybe they are not enough capacity, size wise as the originals are huge, now maybe two side by side would work but then then price jumps X2. Run AGM interstate batteries and never an issue, battery tenders on for the winter 3/4 amp harbor freight model and a smart 1.5 amp. no problem with battery failure during long winter.

I agree. The C63 uses an H8 AMG (Absorbed Glass Mat) battery.

Doing a quick search, Walmart has the EverStart Maxx H8 listed for $123.13 with a 5 year warranty (3 year free replacement and 2 years pro-rated)

Sorry to bring this back to life, but I have a problem and need some quick help.

My batter is dead.

A couple of weeks ago, it sounded a little weak, so I knew it was only a matter of time. I was out of town for a week, and then returned yesterday. I started the car and it struggled to start but finally did. It sat for a week and it was getting colder so I thought to myself, I better buy a batter and change it this weekend.

Well, it is lunch time and the car won't start. Grrrr.

Question: Can I simply jump start it by hooking up jumper cables to the battery on the back? I just want to drive it home so that I can change the battery tonight.

Is it pretty simple to replace the battery?

Thanks!

Jump terminals are under the hood. A battery should never be jumped directly on the battery terminals as they can catch fire / explode. And yes it is very easy to replace.

Perfect - thank you for the quick feedback.
Car jumped successfully. Got it home and changed the battery during my lunch break. The battery was $ 174 at O'Reilly's + tax. Everything seems to be working fine now.

Next thing to tackle is the stupid TPMS light...all my tires are fine on pressure but the light seems to stay on. I think the battery on one of the TPMS's has gone bad. The question is...which one.

Sorry can't help you there, I have a 2010 and it lists the pressure of each tire so it is easy to find out if a specific sensor is bad.
