SRS Light - Passenger Seat Weight Sensor
I've been having an intermittent SRS light for quite some time now where after driving the car for around 20 minutes, the light comes on and disables the passenger (or all?) airbag. The issue with that is obvious...if you have a passenger, they're screwed in a crash.
So today I went to the dealer to get it checked out. They diagnosed it as the weight sensor, which is built into the seat cushion. Therefore, new cushion + labor = $3800. That's ridiculous...
My plan is to shop around but I wanted to ask if anyone else has gone through this and if there is some type of a way to cheat the system so it doesn't check the sensor and assumes that there is someone sitting in the seat at all times.
What do you guys with aftermarket seats do? Do the aftermarket seats have sensors?

I'd look for a cushion from a parts yard and have it installed by an upholstery shop. If you can find the cushion the total cost should be (well) under $1k. Less if the sensor itself is an easy swap (best case scenario),

cheating it would be a bad idea. The front airbags are dual stage so it depends on how much weight is in them for how many to deploy. The main reason for the weight sensing systems disabling when no one is in them is because whatever is in that seat become a projectile when it hits the airbag. Imagine someone purse full of ink pens, makeup and whatever else. Now dump the bag out and set off an airbag to smack all of them. But yea 3800$ is crazy, call mbusa for assistance. Usually they are good about comping safety items.

I've heard SRS system is covered under warranty even when out of warranty. U should check with MBUSA.
